Show Thursday, October 9B THE GREEN SHEET Education Continued from page 4 score from the end-oing a post-tes- t cpncept test. If the student passes the concept, he moves to the next. If not, he gets the extra time he needs, without being pressured, plus any extra help needed. It does take a lot of extra time for the teacher, since the program is so individualized, but personally, I love it. I feel it is what the children need to build their skills, their confidence and their security, she said. Interestingly, the teacher noted that the children accept the new program more readily than do parents or teachers, who feel a need to try it out first. The students know it helps them, she said. Peer pressure also works with this program, she remarked. When a student sees others doing better and notices they bring in homework regularly, he often begins to do more homework himself, and thereby finds he improves because of his own efforts. Students become individuals in this program. Each can work and progress at his own speed, comfortably, and that makes learning easier. I think this program is terrific, she concluded. f- KEARNS KAPERS by Chris Martin Hi, hello, how are you? What a way to finish off a great week.
