The tournament will be a four-game guarantee, which will be played weekday evenings, April 13-15, 2010. llu and 12u will be offered two days, April 1516, 2010 with four games guaranteed. Jr. High wrestling: 1 5 5 6 6 7 7 7 7 From JR HIGH • A10 Branson Ashworth, an 8th grader at Spanish Fork Jr., and Diamond Fork 7th grader Legend Carter led each division with dominating performances in two of the more complete 32-person brackets. Chain wrestling from one move to the next, Ashworth was never challenged in the jr. high 100-pound class, advancing to the finals, where he decisively beat Mason Kendrick of Mountain Crest 12-0 to earn his fourth consecutive title as well as nominations for outstanding wrestler. Taking advantage of liis opponent's mistakes, Carter compiled five wins in the middle school division, including three pins at 80 pounds, finishing with a fall in the finals over Jonathan Kasanicky of Riverton. Spanish Fork participants demonstrated their superior technique and conditioning, with 19 of 21 winning at least one match. In the middle school championships one 6th grader and six 7th graders earned state honors. Conner Sorensen used his quickness and cradle to advance to the finals, where he lost a tough decision 8-2 to Jacob Armstrong of Champions. Bradin Hohrein dominated four out of five bouts to finish third at 86 pounds. The course will include five class dates ending Feb. 19,2010. Cost is $10 and needs to be paid at the Salem Recreation office. Participants need to be 10 years or older, and must attend all classes to pass. Participants will also need to purchase a $10 license/ voucher prior to the class. Vouchers can be purchased at any local hunting/ fishing supply outlet. Isaac "Chad" Parrish, won four matches at 112 with his no-quit style to place fourth in state. At 125 pounds, Sawyer Baum wrestled his way to a 6th-place showing. Tyler Cooper had an impressive three wins in the 93 lb. bracket, ending up in 6th place. In the junior high state meet, Spanish Fork demonstrated its strength in the 85-104-pound range. In addition to Ashworth's championship, three other experienced 8th graders had success. Cooper Thorpe won four matches, including an 8-0 domination of Jaydon Rogers in the 3rd-place match. Trent Kelly went 3-2 in the tough 96-pound class to earn a 4th-place medal. Dalton Thomas made use of his expertise as with a 2-0 defeat of Hunter Holtcamp for 5th at 93 pounds. Spanish Fork 9th graders were led by fourth-place finishers Hunter Hiskey and Aaron Duffin. Hiskey, the most improved junior high wrestler, worked hard in his first season to break into the starting line-up. Earning that recognition for the state meet, Hunter made the most of that opportunity, winning 3-5 at 104 with his physical style. Duffin's additional experience helped him earn three stack falls, to earn 4th at 190 pounds.
