Actually, it is possible to get there with a small airplane or drive by taking a vehicle into the Arizona desert, then looping up a rugged dirt road to the top of the 10,388 foot peak. Map makers say the southern Utah town is the most remote community in the lower 48 states. The hogans, red rock plateaus and sandstone four-whe- el by Russ formations make Navajo Mountain appear like something straight out of a John Wayne movie. The journey to Navqjo Mountain has always been difficult. The quest to bring a high school there seemed nearly impossible. Assistant Attorney General John McAllister first heard in their own bed at night. Doing something is hard when so many different gov- ernmental agencies are involved: the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Justice Department, the Department of Reclamation, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Environmental Quality, the Utah Attorney Generals Office, the Utah Department of Education, San Juan County, the San Juan County School District, the Navsgo Nation and the Navajo Mountain McAllister.
