Hillcrest won the contest 10-- to post a 19-- record for the season and advance to the state championships which begin Saturday. Legion league action over, post season play underway Friday then Holladay Saturday. Brighton, whichjost a chance for a state berth due to a coin flip, to Cottonwood Monday, lost over won Holladay Wednesday, and lost 4 to Judge to Friday. Jordan lost Cottonwood to and Holladay Friday. Hillcrest and Bingham, as the first and second place teams from their respective divisions, will gain an automatic berth in the state tournament slated for Aug. 4 through 11 or 13 at Ken Price and Southridge Parks. West Jordan and Alta will be battling for a state spot at the Valley Tournament, which got underway Monday and will conclude Friday. West Jordan opened against Granite and Alta against West. Anderson went five for five against East with four singles and a home run. McQuivy went three for four and Tony Wartman had a single and a double. Steve Hardy was the winning pitcher. Anderson hit his third home run of the week and his ninth of the season in the loss to Holladay Saturday.
