Deer Season is fast approaching: Deer season Is fast 'approaching for 170,000 hunters all of whom will be looking forward to pursuing and perhaps bagging their buckskin before the close of this years hunt. For those who are successful the way to properly take care of the meat is an important consideration. The closer you can come to professional packing house methods of meat care, the better the game will taste on the table. Division of Fish and Game officers noted that failure to cool game properly before transporting it, hauling it in places where it cant cool, and failure to properly clean gamey flavored game are three of the major causes of meat. The following procedure Is recommended for caring for deer in the field: 1. The animal should be cleaned and dressed immediately after the kill is made. 2. All blood and hair should be washed from the animal before taking it home. Water wont hurt the meat i f allowed to drain off. Meat should be allowed to cool before being transported to home or the locker. Hand the deer so air can circulate freely around it both in the field and at home. 3.
