Show Panel Recommends Nipple Bench for Kaiparovits Kanab, Kane County -- The 30-member Kaiparowits Planning Plan-ning and Development Advisory Ad-visory Council passed a resolution strongly recommending recom-mending that the Secretary of Interior and other concerned federal officials select the Nipple Bench site for the planned Kaiparowits Power Plant. The Advisory Council was appointed by Utah Governor Calvin L. Rampton to coord- , inate and guide energy related development in Kane and Garfield Counties. Council Chairman, Kane County Commission Com-mission Chairman Merrill R. MacDonald, was directed to send copies of the resolution recommending the Nipple Bench site to Governor Rampton, Ramp-ton, the Secretary of Interior and other related governmental govern-mental agencies and officials. According to the resolution, the Council chose the Nipple Bench site after having "considered "con-sidered information relative to the physical, economic and social impact of the power plant at two different site locations." The two sites considered were Nipple Bench and Four Mile Bench, both in Kane County. The Nipple Bench site was , selected because it provides I the least negative impact on the environment, the least cost and "the greatest advantage to the surrounding area," the resolution said. Official selection of a site for the multi-billion dollar power project is expected sometime later this year by the Secretary of the Interior. Selection of Nipple Bench by the Governor's Govern-or's Advisory Council is considered significant because ) it is made up of Utahns charged with overseeing plan- I ning for the facility at the local ' level. |
