Studies are now underway to determine the relative vulnerability of different . species of trout and trout hybrids to the disease. The Division is also continuing to assess the impacts of the disease on wild populations of trout in infected areas. Hopefully, some of the information obtained will help to mitigate the impacts of the disease and aid in management in infected areas. In the meantime, anglers can help to limit the spread of the disease. Spores of the whirling disease parasites. are present in the mud in infected areas and can be transported by muddy hip-boots,, beat trailers, etc. Cleaning mud off equipment before moving between fishing spots will help. The spores are also present in the skeletons of infected trout.
