and about what could have happened They call ths post traumatic stress don’t know if it will ever go away For that reason am sending in this letter in hopes of saving you the anguish that we have been through Parents if your child is on any medication show them what it looks like check for size markings and color If they take it other than at home tell them not to take it if it is not their's Turn it in to the police yourselves don’t trust that someone else will do it for you We have turned our in and it went all the way to the prosecuting attorney who didn’t find enough evidence against any one person so the case is closed The potential is still out there for this to happen again No matter how you feel about Ritalin either for or against children taking it you must agree with us that it is not acceptable for this to go on Sincerely Jennifer M D Creenhalgh Here in Millard County our skies are now improving in that the atmosphere is becoming more stable The air has been cleansed by the snows and winds although we still are encountering ice crystals in the upper part of the troposphere For our locale this boundary begins at roughly 65 miles (34000 feet) from the ground and it is in this region that we see the contrails formed by passing jet aircraft that disturb the ice crystals And Wednesit is during this coming week that our Moon reaches its Last Quarter phase on day the 14 and doesn’t rise until after midnight We therefore have an excellent window for astronomical observing this week save for atmospheric conditions Most of us that watch the skies have noticed that the great band of stars known as the Milky Way is directly overhead around 2000 hours and that the winter constellations Orion Cams Major Taurus and Gemini are nicely situated for viewing We also get to see star the constellation of Leo rising to our east over die mountains with its Regulus During this week of February we get the opportunity to see four of the five naked eye planets throughout the mghL Venus is still gening brighter with each passing day until Wednesday the 21 when it reaches the magnitude of 4 6 or approximately 9 times brighter than the star Sinus in Cams Major Venus is easy to locate in our southwestern sky located in the constellation of Pisces Both Jupiter and Saturn are quite prominent almost directly overhead in the constellation of Taurus For those that stay up late in the evening (after midnight) the red planet Mars makes it debut over our eastern horizon in the constellation of Libra It will only be of a magnitude 10 getting brighter by a half 16 million miles from magnitude (05) by the end of the month with the planet being us In June when Mars will be in opposition from the Earth this distance will shrink to 42 million miles For our deep sky observers that may own either a rich field telescope or an instrument of substantial aperture the constellation Leo offers two interesting objects that can be seen together in the same field of a low power telescope These objects M65 and M66 are a find pair of spiral galaxies that can be easily seen together in a good pair of binoculars on a clear moonless night However it takes a pair of binoculars in the 20x70 mm or 20x80 mm class to resolve their true characteristics as spiral galaxies In a telemagnification and scope yielding a low magnification of magnification of at least four inches of aperture these are beautiful objects to behold Both of these galaxies are approximately 29 million light years from us and are separated by a mere 80000 light years The diameter of M65 is about 60000 light years while M66 is 50000 light years If these galaxies were located 326 light years from us (10 parsec) which is the distance where the absolute magnitude is gauged both would have a magnitude of 2 Each of these galaxies would be a few times brighter than our full Moon The photograph below will give some idea of how these galaxies would appear in a medium sized telescope under low magnification The diagram of Leo “The Lion” should assist in finding them in our eastern sky M66 appears to the lower lett of this photograph The M66 Galaxy gives us a view of it massive nucleus or core M65 in this photograph to the right faces us at an angle so that the dust lanes located within it spiral arms can be seen easily Each of these galaxies present a view of how our own galactic system might appear it we were able to view it from similar angles Question to gas stations Dear editor would like to ask a question to the gas stations Why is it that we can drive to Nephi and get gas for $ 34 or even into Provo and get it for $ 28 It just doesn’t seem right that we have to pay around 20 cents for And we have drivers right here in our town that delivers the gas to the stations And they always say shop at home Mrs Smith Leo the Lion Aster-is- showing the loM65 and cation ot M66 Assist youth on the way back To the editor May ask a fa vor of the members of the community? Stop for a few seconds and think back to you adolescent days whether it be five or fifty years ago Is there anything you regret? Did you ever mess up? Were your actions occasionally less than perfect? And what about since then have you made any mistakes? If you can answer NO to all of these questions this letter may not pertain to you We have all had trials in our lives most of which differ from person to person and situation to situation they are trials none the less The issues in our lives may have been As each situation differs so forced upon us coincidental or possibly bqen does the severity of the associated circumstances Youth today face many obstacles that most of us haven't had to personally deal with Drugs alcohol violence and casual sex fill the world around us And believe it or not these things are making their way into our small community more and more every day am proud to know that many youth have chosen to stay away from such things ongratulations! But there are others who have not made such wise decisions it must also be said that these youth aren’t always “other people’s children” they could be as close as a son or daughter a grandson a niece a cousin or a friend To realize that these issues are starting to hit closer to home is an upsetting thought even more disturbing is the reality that many of these fallen youth are asked for help yet getting the opposite Kids in our community that truly want to tray again and start over are being pushed back down by the very people that should be helping them The road back is long and rough but we need to realize that there IS a road back Since some of these youth are ready and willing to try why not do all we can to help them stay on the path to a clean life? do not wish to condone their previous actions There were wrong Surely they have been punished by direct and indirect consequences of their actions For many there are still consequences yet to come These youth don’t need to be judged except by the proper authorities They shouldn't be shunned but befriended and accepted by members of the community They need good associates otherwise they will look to the only people who do accept them their old friends In such a situation returning to their bad habits is almost inevitable Most importantly they don’t deserve to be called worthless or be caused to feel worthless Constant accusations of uselessness will lead to feelings of inadequacy If the belief that they will never be able to measure up becomes too far embedded in their minds than worthless is what they will become If we don't help them to see their full potential then they may never reach it Those fighting their way back are on the road to greatness but the trials they will face along the way are huge They need our help Let us remove as many obstacles from their path as possible instead of adding more We can show them that we care that it is worth it and that we truly believe they can overcome their mistakes Simply put a mistake something we have all made is the cause of their destruction a mistake nothing more Don’t punish the youth of our community because of their families Respect them for their dreams Thoughtfully Mandi Matheson m: These medical specialists are available at Delta Community Medical Center and Fillmore Community Medical Center Call the number listed for an appointment AUDIOLOGY Jeff February Manwaring 15 29 Delta Fillmore ELECTROMYOGRAPHYNERVE TESTING CONDUCTION Nielsen Richard M S PT Delta February Fillmore FAMILY PRACTICE Craig Brent M D Grose MD Jackson MD David G Limburg M T -W -Th Alt FAAFP MD FAAFP M T - Th - F Alt Sat Sat Morn Mom Fillmore Fillmore fee The ancient Egyptians on pillows made of stone liTiBHrHini slept TiTTnrtlmTe'rr DEADLINES Deadline for all announcements school news events etc 5 pm on Fridays POSTMASTER Delta Sole: Letters to the Editor must be signed to be considered for publication may be withheld at writer's request at the discretion ofthe editor Would you like to Icam more about gardening?
