Show CHICAGO AND it is well understood that the house can consider reconsider re its vote on the worlds fair location it it is so desires that the failure of the senate to concur with the house on the loca ion would knock out Chi cagos chances and that lastly the president can use his veto power in a detrimental way to the interests of the western metropolis matro polis all this we say ia fully comprehended by the country at large yet the majority accept it as an assured fact that if any fair is held in 1892 it will be held in chicago congressmen but voiced the benti ment of the largest number of americans when they chose the young western city in the contest in the house and therefore the public is reconciled to the decision this being a fact there is not much logic in the defeated cities new york and st louis raising such a whine about chicago not being able to stand the burden that she is tired of her bargain that she wants the show put off till 1893 etc these are simply provincial gusts of jealousy jea lorsy that amount to nothing chicago knew what she was about when she bid for the fair and she knew that she had a nation looking to her for r fair sample of american pluck furthermore it was understood that the fair was to commemorate the discovery of america by christopher columbus in 1492 this being the year in which the discovery was made a year after or a year before or any other than 92 would bo inconsistent for such a celebration eb ration we believe a fair will be held in commemoration of the discovery of america in 1892 and that it will be made a grand success by chicago |
