National Homecoming queen pageant held in Hawaii this July Valene was sent an application to enter the Utah Homecoming queen pag cant after she was crowned DHS homecoming queen Out of all the applications 12 girls were chosen around the state to compete in the pageant at the Salt Lake Marriott On Saturday forty girls from Utah Nevada Idaho and Montana checked in for the competition During that day the ' rview followed by a girls had an banquet where last year’s Queen Tina Crowe from South Sevier talked to the contestants about the 1990 pageant and the trip to Hawaii The next day Valene and the other Mendelssohn Male Chorus sings old favorites by Loretta Tenney DHS— The Mendelssohn Male Chorus performed a vanety of numbers from classical to barbershop for high school students and community members on Friday May 3 at Delta High School The Utah Valley based chorus made tour Deha their last stop of a "We've toured most of the western United States at one time or another evefor churches schools at singing ning groups and nursing homes and this is by far die best high school audience we've ever had" said Elliott Budge a conductor of the chorus "We really appreciate die fine audience you were” According to Milton Larsen conductor of die group die purpose of this tour was to promote singmg especially among young men "1 enjoyed it and they have some good voices It made me realize that singmg is enjoyable in any stage of life" said junior Spencer The 43 chorus members range in age from 2 to 90 The oldest member of the chorus had to attend a wedding in Las Vegas so he wasn't able to participate in the last part of die tour The chorus formed in 1912 was originally called die University Chorus but in 1928 in was renamed the Mendelssohn Male Chorus Milton Larsen said "It’s something we really enjoy There’s more than just tinging in die group there's camaradene" Migrant program Millard School District is sponsoring an education program this summer for the children of migratory farm workers It will be held at die Fillmore Elementary School 533 West 400 South Fillmore Utah Gasses are scheduled to begin June 3 and continue until July 31 1991 The program provides a learning years of experience for children In addition to the educational program Millard School District is sponsoring a Summer Food Service Program Free breakfast and lunch meals will be made available to children each school day at 9'00 a m and 1200 pm Meals will be provided at die Lunch Center of the Fillmore Elementary School All children in the Fillmore area are welcome to participate
