by family and friends as he arrived at Tooele Army Depot with his unit Sergeant Nielson’s unit was activated on November 24 1990 The unit C Company 4th Light Armored infantry Battalion of tiie 2nd Marines was the only Utah unit to participate in offensive ground combat in the Gulf The unit entered Kuwait 3 days before the actual invasion Its mission was to serve as a diversion to convince the Iraqis that die invasion was taking place at that point and to draw enemy fire This allowed allied forces to pinpoint tlie location of enemy forces Sergeant Nielson a light armored vehicle commander states that when the actual invasion began his unit flanked the main Iraqi force and advanced on Kuwait City On the first day of fighting the unit captured 907 enemy prisoners He says that he and his vehicle crew captured over 120 prisoners that day Brett plans to take a few days off then resume his civilian career He has more than die war to recover from his new daughter RyLee Kaye was bom less
