Show 'Pacing of South Uemplt. The Eight Farce-Comedians of the City Council Coun-cil have again placed a wedge in the proposition to pave Brigham street. With their usual ephemeral ephe-meral brew of statesmanship, they vouchsafe as a reason for their opposition to the improvement of that fashionable boulevard the childish proposal that If the paving is done it will indefinitely delay the construction of a reservoir in Parley's canyon. can-yon. It was suggested last week in these columns that if a waterworks improvement of the magnitude magni-tude proposed were to be made, it would have to be done by the issuance of bonds. Why do not these Eight Malcontents submit to the people the proposition to issue the bonds? Is it possible that they fear to do so for the reason that they have been lead to suppose that the public would not be willing to trust them with the amount of money involved? We are very much afraid that this is so, and that if the people had an opportunity they would present these gross incompetents in-competents with a large-sized rebuff. It is sad enough for a self-respecting community commu-nity to be forced to trust tbem with the' expenditure expendi-ture of the amount of money they already have under their control. After all, possibly it would be better to delay this much needed and desirable Improvement until un-til such a time as the work can be done under the supervision of a reasonably intelligent council-manic council-manic administration. |
