He cites authorities which H are orthodox with saints and doctrines their chiefs K have advocated from tne first. They are a com- K pleto answer to Apostle Smoot's declarations of m loyalty to the government of the United States. W borne of us in the West have understood this sit- B uation for a long time, but in the East very maiv B; people never can discriminate between the faith K of a Christian in the government of God in the B world to come and the Mormon theory that he H governs here in this world through his duly ap- iH pointed agent, the head of the Mormon church, K and that this government exists in all temporal jHj matters, from selling a lot or a band of sheep or Vj asenatorship or in the degradation of a people flj by dictating what ticket they shall vote on elec- K tion day. And even many in our own midst who fli have for years been familiar with this usurpation S; of power over the souls of their followers affect K to see no menace to tree institutions in this exer- m else of power so degraded do men sometimes be- K come when struggling tor office or spoils R But in his own incisive way, Dr. Washard sets jB the matter forth and clinches the truth of wjiat he Kj says by giving the pages and sections from stan- fl dard Mormon works. There is no escape from l them; moreover they aro all doctrines which have mm been preached by Mormon chiefs since 1847.
