Matthew F. Stroshine, 17, Orem, was arraigned on two felony sexual abuse charges before Judge Sterling B. Sainsbury. Stroshine denied the allegations. Sainsbury set a pretrial hearing for Dec. 4. Stroshine e also is to undergo a psychological evaluation. Stroshine was accompanied by his parents to the hearing. He will be represented by an attorney at future hearings. Juvenile court hearings are generally closed to the public, except in cases involving particularly heinous crimes, or when the defendant is 17 years old and charged with a felony. Dow trimming service NEW YORK (AP) Dow Jones & Co. is sharply curtailing its $650 million plan to revamp its Dow Jones Markets financial information service and cutting jobs in a move viewed as another indication the struggling unit will be sold. The company said Wednesday it will lay off about 200 to 300 of the division's employees to help focus Dow Jones Markets on its main business, providing electronic financial data such as stock and bend prices through com- puter workstations. "They are trying to dress it up for a sale," said Michael Kupinski, an analyst with A.G. Edwards & Sons in St. Louis. Dow Jones said the planned layoffs, which account for up to 8 percent of the unit's 3,900 employees, will occur between now and early next year. Shuttle plans change CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. Murphy's Mission controllers will be scrambling and might rearrange much of the schedule for Columbia's flight because of a problem with a satellite studying the sun. Columbia's crew had planned to release the Spartan satellite today to help calibrate SOHO, which has been in orbit for two years. But a few hours before 16-da- y Columbia lifted off Wednesday SOHO shut down. Managers still have no idea why the equipment suddenly shut down. IW C HRISTIAN D.ul) PROVO A Swedish mother, according to 4th District Court Judge Anthony Schofield, "doesn't care a fig what this court does." So on Wednesday, Schofield made two rulings that may damage the mother's legal position in Utah, at least. The final chapter in this custody battle, however, has yet to he written trans-Atlanti- c Contempt of court On Wednesday, Schofield again found Sophia Ohlander in contempt of court for refusing his order to give custody of Julia to the girl's American father, Mark Larson of Orem. The judge also denied a motion by Ohlander's attorney, Daniel Bertch. to set aside the Larsons' divorce decree for jurisdictional reasons. After the rulings were made, Larson agreed he had won one more day in court and had his legal stance reaffirmed. But he said he's still left with legal pronouncements of custody, and not actual custody. Julia, mean- while, remains in Sweden with Ohlander. Julia was born in 1990 in Provo to the couple, who met while Larson was an LDS Church missionary. After filing for divorce in Swedish courts, Ohlander was granted a divorce in 1992. Larson subsequently filed and was granted a divorce in Utah courts. But the case has yet to be resolved and in the past, both parents have taken custody of Julia while they attempt to settle their differences. 18s" Swedish television documentary about the international custody fight.
