"My recorded voice asks them to respond one way if they are okay and another way if they need help," says Kathy. If help is needed, a person designated by the customer for assistance is notified. Up to three consecutive calls for assistance can be made. If there is no response from the ustomer in the first place, two more calls will be made to him or intervals. Then her at the assistance calls will begin to be made. For the latch key children, the program makes the call whenever the parents would like it to be made. If the children do not answer, the computer contracts neighbors, parents or whoever is designated and lets them know. This allows the working parent to know that their child is okay without having to call from work. Although there are similar programs available for the elderly and homebound, Jim says there service contacts the customer each day, while others may not contact until the customer notifies them of an five-minu- emergency.
