The local team played heads up ball and were leading 11 to 2 after seven innings play. Smith, of the Utah State Guard, Wednesday evening called fO. the Junior Chamber of Commerce to do more than uive the loeal State guard unit moral hacking to give the unit active backing by their participation in the program. He urged every meml)er oT the Jayeees to devote the one night a week necessary to the patriotic duty of set vice in the State guard. Colonel Smith was guest speaker at the Jayeees regular meeting, which was in the form of a ladies night held in the canyon. Despite the rainy weather, the meeting was well attended and the weather as not too cold to make the evening enjoyable. Colonel Smith pointed out why the tlate guard units had been organized throughout the country, stating that when the national uard c.iis had been called into active service, the need for some law enforcement agency to the property, life and homes of the citizens had been felt by congress and the respecive state legislatures. To do just that, is tne purpose of the State guard units. In concluding his talk Colonel Smith stated that the opinion of most people is "We don't want to do anything to help, but oh, how we'll howl when anything goes wrong." Colonel Smith was introduced by Captain Geo. D. Haymond Jr. officer of the local Commanding unit.
