Show Ephraim Boy Dies Dies' Of f Hurts Suffered In Creek Swimming IS SECOND CHILD TO DIE SINCE POOLS OF AREA WERE VERE CLOSED Allen Tern Vern Goble 9 son of Boyd Doyd and Ruth Draper Goble died in a Mt 1 Pleasant hospital shortly after midnight Thursday morning following an nn operation performed in an effort to save him from the effects of a swimming swimming swimming swim swim- ming accident The boy with his older brother brother brother bro bro- ther and sister and several other children was swimming in the shallow water of Ephraim creek near 3rd South and Fifth East streets when a heavy plank leaning against a post Most came loose and fell on him knocking him under the water He was carried a short distance down downstream downstream downstream stream but apparently was able to pull himself from the water and then lapsed into unconsciousness unconsciousness unconsciousness due to shock This happened about 3 p p. p m. m Wed Wed- The boys boy's sister Dorothy 10 ran to the nearby home of Guy Young who had just that moment moment moment mo mo- ment returned from the field calling for help Calls Doctor Doctor Doctor- Mr 11 Young ran to where the boy was lying saw he lie was in ina a serious condition and returned return return- ed home to call Dr H. H B. B Mc- Mc Dr 1 called Captain Newell Cherry of the th Ephraim Fire Department and they went at once to the scene with the Fire Department They worked for an hour before the boy was revived enough to talk with them and to be moved He was then taken taken taken tak tak- en to Dr 1 office at about and was kept there for observation until 7 p. p pm p.m. m. m Taken to Hospital It was apparent that the child had suffered a serious injury and so was taken to the Sanpete Sanpete Sanpete San- San pete L D S hospital in Mt 1 Pleasant Pleasant Plea Plea- sant where four surgeons from Richfield Ephraim Moroni 1 and Mt Pleasant examined him and decided to operate They found the inferior vena cava had been ruptured by the blow from the heavy plank Born At Nephi The child was born at Nephi May lay 11 1942 but had lived in Ephraim for the past few years since his father a World War Var II veteran completed his training as a barber and accepted accept accept- ed employment in the Cherry Barber shop He is survived by his parents a brother Boyd Earl 12 and anda a sister Dorothy 10 all of Ephraim by a grandmother Mrs 1 Maysel 1 Goble Salt Lake City and grandparents Mr 11 and Mrs Amos Draper Moroni 1 Funeral services will be held at nt 4 p p. p m. m Saturday in the Ephraim Ephraim Ephraim Eph Eph- raim South ward chapel and will be conducted by Bishop Leonard N N.
