The 1949 harvest, which has just finished, will show an average yield of almost 17 tons to the acre as compared with less than 12 tons in 1948. The total amount of beets harvested this year in West Jordan area was 92,000 tons from 5500 acres. A year ago there were about 86,-- , uuu tons irom i juuu acres. This pronounced increase in yield is a result of better farming methods & more favorable growing conditions, said Mr Sanders, who advises early planting, timely thinning, greater & more intelligent use of fertil izers. Earlr planting, he reported, assures the farmer of a chance to replant in case of failure from the first seeding. It also makes way for a longer growing season with a possible increase in both tonnage & sugar content. Mr Sanders also reported that this fall a greater use of me chanical harvesting along with ample supply of labor made the harvesting task much easier for the West Jordan farmers. Another statement of optimism was given by Mr Sanders, said that the future is for continued i prices tor sugar from ; year's peal to the heart of a child. Children should never be misled. God knows this & so He became a Child to lead them. Parents can easily tell their children that Christmas is Christ's birthday & that toyland is a child's salute to the Eternal Child. A Child is born to us. All other children are born for themselves; their little tears & wailings draw attention to their own wants. But this Child had no need to ask of an inferior nature existence which He enjoyed for all Eternity. He would not have become man were it not for our misfortune. He was born for us not for Himself. This field had a yield of better than 20 tons of beets to the acre & is an example of success from ridge coyer planting after a first seeding last spring failed to produce a stand of beets. The second Mass is usually offered at dawn to signify that His birth marked a new & everlasting day for the human race. The third Mass is offered after the sun has risen to manifest that His birth was a sun- & glory i burst of liberty upon the world. . Thank God the real spirit of Christmas is taking hold of our American people with an enthusiasm never before witnessed. Christmas cards depicting the birth of Christ are being sought for in many stores & folks give to the underprivileged & help the down & out not so much to be seen as to fulfill the man date of our Saviour: "Give & it shall be given unto you, We who have oeen favored more than any other nation with WART. We should see in this feast of Christmas the shadow of a Child flit through our streets & lanes. We should read in His infant features an anxiety to help & comfort all. With this Child we should play ball: A little Child came down from heaven one day To find his ball the earth which sin had cast away. Let us all Join in & help find his ball." In the church of St Therese there will be three masses. The first will be offered at midnight to the accompaniment of the great music of the church & her famous carols. The second mass will be offered at 9 & the third at 10 on Christmas Day to the same accompaniment To all in this community we tender the wish of a blessed & merry Christmas. tatner Francis Sloan.
