Show Branch of Lions Club Will Organize Here ; i I The Gunnison Valley Development league officials and members, after a lengthy conference with F. C. Kans-ler, Kans-ler, field director for the International Internation-al Association of Lions Clubs, last Friday evening, voted to abandon the present organization and, as a body, become affiliated with the national organization. While but a few of the Development league members were present at the special meeting, the matter has been discussed and practically all have signed to become members of the Lions club. According Accord-ing to the plans submitted by Mr. Kansler, it will be necessary to have thirty members, and the petition circulated cir-culated has been liberally signed, twenty-seyen of the necessary thirty members having attached their signatures. sig-natures. Throughout the universe the Lions club is making wonderful strides in growth and the benefit and good accomplished ac-complished is so widespread that branches are being organized in many new towns and cities almost daily. With the club functioning in Gunnison and with its members squarely back of the organization good is bound to result, as the principles prin-ciples advocated and followed by the thousands of members all over the world, is making the Lions club one of the foremost of the nation. Some of the principles as advocated and followed, are: Full and hearty cooperation with nil other clubs, the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and other civic and commercial organizations, in all movements in the community which seek to promote pro-mote any betterment, civic, industrial or educational, and any plans looking towards the elimination of class distinction. dis-tinction. Promotion of public health, hygiene hy-giene and sanitation, especially among those who need instruction and guidance in the care and feeding feed-ing of children. Being an organization thoroughly loyal to our governments it is our special interest to advance education in the language, customs, ideals and governments of our countries, especially es-pecially among adults of foreign birth. The biggest asset of any nation being be-ing its people, one of the cardinal points of Lionism is the cultivation of a spirit of genuine brotherhood among men. |
