Show To tootles s flag day ceremony gi given ve n by tooele thoele elks last saturday evening brought to tooele thoele as impressive a flag cere mony as has ever been witnessed in this city climaxing a parade composed of the organization of the town an inspiring program was presented at the city hall by the local elks club the invocation was given by rev thomas H ev ans after which hollwed an exola nation of the standards and ideals of the american people as portray ed by our flag given by the offic ers of the club the nine flags which have been used since the founding of ou our r c country were held by members rs 0 of f the elks club and the histo history of each was head by mr C M tiet jen jeri As each flag was reviewed miss roxie lee played an ani ari ement lement on the piano mrs bev erly Gillespi Gill espiS 6 probert further en the program by a rendition of the star spangled banner the guest speaker for the occa s on was judge clarence baker of the first district court in salt lake city who stressed that the flag is not an object of worship but rath er a symbol of all that our nation al life stands for he stated that our country is a haven of refuge for the weak the poor and the op pressed and that it is the cha champ ion of all that is opposed to un un democratic ways of life te remind ed us that we are living in a changed world and that the des tiny of the united states is also changed as a result of two world wars he further stated that we have the united nations to devel op in order to avoid a third world war a horror that must be avoid ed the forceful and cere mony was brought to a close b by aa a few words from the exalted 1 ruler of the club mr N F burger after mich bishop perry gillette gave the benediction mr and mrs wilard atkin from delta visited during the week in tooele thoele with their mother mrs ydia lydia atkin |
