Show or 1 t. t 6 j Letters To The E Editor 1 or BRUIN PRIDE We should all be proud of our Bruin basketball team They are national ranked and with good cause the pride they have in themselves is reflected in the way they play That is is not the only thing we ure should have pride In We We live in a a nation that is a melting pot of many different A nation that has put men on the moon and recovered from urban riots A na nation nation pation pa- pa tion that sends millions of dollars for aid to the starving in Africa and welcomes millions of people from around the world to call US U.S. home Yes a a nation that killed students at Kent State and rescued students in Grenda A nation that honors its heroes and those who did their d duty du duty du- du ty even after 20 years That is a nation I can have pride in Im I'm also proud when at a Bruin game the National Anthem is played and my 3 year old son stands up and puts his bis hand over his heart FOR MY AMERICA LAND I see the flag in the corner and pride swells in my heart from I Isee Isee Isee see my grandparents immigrating 70 70 years ago I see my crawling across Europe to gain freedom in the US U.S. I see my my- father flying overhead protecting our nation nation instead of spending holidays with his family I 1 see my neighbors from the Orient raising their kids without fear I see 50 stars of freedom and all that t they ey- ey y- y stand for And I see the Bruin Basketball team at what best can be described as at ease I dont don't see pride They are not the only ones many fans are also with out respect for our flag But perhaps because the Bruins are in uniform and the reason we come and a symbol of our school is why it hurts to see them slouch during the National Anthem Editor Here is quoted Public Law 94 for when to salute the flag If the coaches start to honour our flag the team will follow then the cheerleaders then maybe the rest of the fans will too I know my family even my 3 year old son will willbe be honouring it Then we can all have Bruin Pride and American Pride Craig Degenhardt |
