Paul Welcker worn ens basketball team won another big game as seasonal play nears the end They now stand at 9 wins 4 losses in league play with excellent chances for the play Snow College Badgers took it on the chin when the Bruins handed them an 86 66 loss T The e score however does not reflect struggle of the Bruins in the early go got off to a slow start by missing every shot they put up T The e Badgers however could do no better as they kept turning the b ball ll llover over each time they mounted an offensive attack Neither team was able to score until finally Snow scored two and a half minutes into the game forward Cheryl Tye quickly responded with a three point play of her own It seemed the Bruins were going to have a lot of trouble as the Badgers came back to take the lead Becky Engman scored big when she hit back to back 3 point shots which gave the Bruins a 9 6 lead The Badgers proved to be a tough team as the score see-sawed see back and forth through the first 10 minutes of play With remaining remaining remaining remain remain- ing in the half Tye assisted Jennifer Jennifer Jennifer Jen Jen- Hadfield which gave the Bruins a 26 20 lead This seemed to be the turning point in the game game and a winning combination as Tye and Hadfield posted the high scores Tye 21 points Hadfield 23 points Hadfield proved unstop able through the remainder of the first half which ended with the Bruins on top 46 came out fast the second half with Tye scoring on a follow up shot as the Bruins Bruin scored the first 6 points Hadfield again playing playing playing play play- ing tough hit an inside shot and foul pitch to give the Bruins a 55 35 at the 1453 mark The Badgers struggled hard but did little to cut the big lead of through the next 9 minutes of play With remaining in the game game the Bruins still had a 20 point lead at 70 Bruins coach Jean using using using us us- ing all the subs still held the Badgers under control as went on to win at 86 In a post game show with Coach she pointed out that the Bruins are a top contender along with Northern Idaho Utah Valley and Southern Idaho When asked if any particular player stood out in the game Wid Wid- dison commented Cheryl Tye usually always ys does she's kind of a cohesive thing for us she steps out outon outon outon on the court and we just seem to play playa a lot better Commenting further on Bruin players credited Ellen Doan Dean with good defense and offensive offensive offensive of of- rebounds Julie Allen with good defense and Vida Powell who scored well a 3 point shot and a total of 10 points added its kind of hard to pin pinpoint pinpoint pinpoint point any anyone one or two I thought they did a good job of using the whole team tonight Looking down the road the Bruins will finish 4 play with C Colorado lorado Northwestern February 26 and Eastern Utah on February 27 The Bruins defeated both teams the last time they met but said I cant can't see that we can take any team lightly I think were we're going to have to play our best to beat them Both games will be played at atTa Ta Taylorsville High School and will begin at pm p.m. Mens games will immediately follow at pm p.m. Student admission is free with student card adults |
