Show Entrepreneur Peck Wins i Tr q II 1 Second In n State H t By Kelly Fischer I put all the energy that I put in into into into in- in to raising children into school and my business explains Graphic Design student Linda Peck She has 8 children and is isnow isnow isnow now busy bringing up another child of sorts a business she and her business partner Marilyn Grande started out of their homes five years ago Beginning a career after raising a family can be tough My resume looked sad says Peck of the time she and Grande began their business You dont don't get credit for raising children Though Peck lacked any business experience outside of the home with luck a little advice and lots of work Peck Grande has become a successful company It has already sold over a half million dollars worth of merchandise This month Peck was the second place winner in the statewide Collegiate Collegiate Collegiate Col Col- Enterprise Entrepreneur for time full-time contest a contest students who also own a business The prize was 2000 The entrants were judged on the type of business the business plan and marketing Peck taught the art of hand- hand painting antique porcelain dolls before she gave it up for the business of paper dolls Her acknowledge of antique French and German dolls inspired a French Doll series The collectable ble paper dol dolls s come with changes of authentic antique clothing Following designs included the i 4 r a t q f C 7 t NI I ft 11 1 Marilyn Mirilyn left and Linda Peck Pack right hl O 0 ru IlIr r ot 01 it I Iere I I. I t l hl lv h Enchanted Forest series It features the classic characters Sleeping Beauty Prince Charming Snow SnowWhite SnowWhite SnowWhite White and Cinderella These original designs with some surprise surprise surprise sur sur- sur- sur prise to their creators have even sold to Disney World When they came up with their business idea all they had were simple line drawings A person they knew had contacts with Maceys Macey's department store and took the drawings to New York They received orders for the dolls before they had even been printed She said that it was amazing how well everything went without them really really really real real- ly knowing what they were doing As for t the e future four more dolls are planned as well as expansion into other gift and paper products Her dolls sell locally at Dees Dee's Dolls in Trolley Square Deseret Books and Rocky Mountain Christmas in Park City The dolls are also aiso featured in many catalogs such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art Currant and FAO FAD Schwarz As a graphic design student at Peck is gaining production skills she previously needed to pay others to do She says that she couldn't be more pleased with her experience here In many colleges colleges colleges col col- col- col leges courses are taught with the purpose of weeding out students But the teachers here are genuinely genuine genuine- ly concerned with the success of the students students' and provide ways for being successful Students can see Pecks Peck's dolls and talk to her about the business at the Job Expo on Feb 25 in the Copper Room t |
