He remembers using it himself as a DSC student to fly north to see his family. I think its a great opportunity because its not easy to come up with a student, he said. Despite the offered discount for flights, many DSC students have never even heard about the fare reduction. money as able. English adjunct instructor Kate Sirls said that if a student drops a class, she usually is not aware of the reason for him or her dropping. While she sometimes feels she should contact the student, she generally doesnt because she figures that it is most likely personal. Overall, Sirls said if a student is able to stick it out, he or she should try to. However, situations should be handled on a personal basis because people handle things differently, she said. I dont need to know imaginary numbers if I have my millions," he said. "But you have to draw the line where your personal life outweighs the importance of your education." For Stephanie Myers, a freshman education major from West Jordan, the only factor that would keep her out of school would be financial problems. Although professors were understanding of her situation, she said she was frustrated about having to repeat classes. When students drop out too late into the semester, tuition is not reimbursed. Nau said she wouldnt fly as much without the student discount because she doesnt have a lot of because spending money. Minnick said he sees about two or three Dixie students a a lot week,-althoug- of the same people come through repeatedly. He said with the lack of knowledge about the discount, it is important for the students who use it to be a good source of advertisement and to get the word out. Any institution is effective when they produce things that will be a benefit to students, Smith said. To get the word out would be good, they could advertise places where the majority of students would be, like sporting events, or just focusing on places where students will be. The student discount seems to be good for both the airlines and DSC students. Getting people on board is a great thing for the airlines, Minnick said. Our goal is to get as many people as we can onboard. As long as people keep using it, the relationship between SkyWest and Dixie will stay awhile. Staying in school can be challenging when crises arise itherseki re ticket home. Students can purchase said shes never heard of the flight discount although many of the people in her apartment at Rebel Creek commute to Salt Lake to visit their families. Although Ive never flown, I think its a good idea because college students are poor, and we want to go places too, Garrett said. Landon Smith, a sophomore biology major from Santa Clara, said he would definitely consider traveling more often with the discounted fare. Id love to see new places and experience new things; thats always good, he said. However, Smith said he doesnt think hed use the discount to travel to Salt Lake. Its easier to drive up there so that Ill have a car to get around with, he said. But if I want to get up there quick and get back quick, I would use it. It depends on the circumstances for it to be worth it.
