The Red Storm scored eight runs in the fourth inning to put the game completely out of reach. Game two against AAU was another blowout but a brilliant pitching performance by the Red Storm. Five pitchers combined to throw a r, the only hit, a home run, coming in the seventh inning. The pitchers combined to strike out six Urban Knights en route to a 15-- 1 win. Leading the way offensively was senior infielder Jimmy Dever. Deverwent three for four with five RBIs, hitting two home runs. Oldfield and Rosenhan each had two RBIs. In one against the game Knights, the Lihan Red Storm sent senior pitcher Skyler Southwick to the mound. Southwick pitched brilliantly, going five innings, giving up no runs on three hits, with four strikeouts. The Red Storm offense scored two runs in the first inning and two in the third inning, but it was the bottom half of the fifth inning that DSC exploded for nine runs. Junior outfielder Jesse Stone was put in to pinch hit with the bases loaded. Stone hit a grand slam, accounting for four of the DSC runs that inning. The other DSC player to lead the way offensively was senior infielder Alex Rosenhan. Rosenhan finished three for three with five RBIs and two runs scored as DSC beat AAU 13-In game two the Red Storm sent senior pitcher Tyson Bailey to the mound. Bailey also went five innings, shutting the Urban Knights down. He only allowed three hits while striking out four. The offense once again gave the pitching all the support it would need behind the bat of Stone. He went two for four with three RBIs and two runs scored. Junior catcher Drew Oldfield went 0. one for three with three RBIs, scoring once. DSC scored once in the first inning, five times in the third, and then twice in both the fourth and sixth innings to crush AAU and run their winagain 10-ning streak to three. Rosenhan, a business administration major from Sandy, said the major difference in the team is doing the little things. We have just been getting into a groove, Rosenhan said. We are not making stupid errors, hitting when guys are on base, and doing all the small things. 0, Every pitcher is coming out with a lot of fire and throwing strikes, Friend said. Everyone is producing, and our hitting is contagious, and everyone is playing well. The Red Storm faced HPU, the team that was picked to win the PacWest Conference, on Monday. Southwick got the start and allowed seven runs, six earned in five innings of work, striking out three. The story of the game was once again the Red Storm offense. Junior outfielder Brett Adams went three for four, driving in four runs in the n second game. A big six-ru- inning helped DSC overcome an early 0 lead and eventually win the game, 13-2-- 8. Game two was a pitching battle between Bailey and Caelan OMeara of HPU. Bailey was just a bit better as he allowed three runs, two earned, in six innings on seven hits, but struck out eight EiPU batters. OMeara went five innings, allowing four runs, three earned, and also struck out eight Red Storm hitters. The win improved Bailey to 0 on the season. Adams once again carried the team on his back, going two for three with three RBIs, hitting a home run. The final score was 3 in favor of the Red Storm. Friend said the games were really big because HPU was picked to win the conference earlier in the year. We have won really good games, and sweeping the doubleheader from HPU was huge, Friend said. If we continue to stay within ourselves and try not to do too much we will finish the season very well. DSC and HPU played another doubleheader Tuesday, but the results were not in by press time. DSC e series now plays a the of against University Hawaii Hilo at Hurst Field on Friday, a doubleheader Saturday, and Sunday. 3-- 4-- four-gam- softball drops close Tennis uses luck of the games in Hawaii to HPU Irish to beat CCU 1 Dixie 8-- BY Dixie ERIK DORN Sun Staff Writer Dixie defeated the Seasiders 1 and In the first game Dixie sent senior pitcher Haley Schumers to take on the batters of She pitched seven innings, allowing only five hits and one earned run. While most college students have the luxuries of spending spring break in vacation hot spots, the Dixie State College womens tennis team headed for the Rocky Mountains on a road trip to Grand Junction, Colo., to play nationally ranked Mesa State, then on to Denver to play four teams in four days. Despite the teams record, the players are having a good time and getting the most out of the opportunity to be on tennis DSCs third-yea- r team, said sophomore Brittny Rogers, a dental hygiene major from Longmont, Colo. After a 7 loss against Mesa State in Grand Junction, the women went to Denver and played Colorado Christian University on St. Patricks Day. Some of the DSC team came out to play wearing green socks, green hair ribbons, and Rogers said she wore neon green fishnet stockings, just to be 3-- festive. The other team looked at us like we were a little crazy, Rogers said, Our team is all about playing good tennis and having fun. The team went on to an 1 victory, winning five of six singles matches and two of their three doubles matchups against CCU. In singles action, junior Ashley Lafeen won in straight sets, as did Rogers. Freshmen Lauren Centrella, Alexandria Bergen and Lauren Tarver took out their opponents in straight sets as well. In doubles play, Bergen and Centrella won 6 while Lafeen and Rogers 8-- 8-- eased in an 2 win against CCU. The Irish luck seemed to pass when they played the Metropolitan State College of Denver, as they lost 6 on Thursday. The Red Storm lost all singles matches but did manage to put up some numbers of their own in the process. Tarver and Bergen both rallied to three sets but wound up with losses, and the Red Storm lost both doubles matches against MSCD, On Friday the ladies played the No. University of Central Oklahoma and the No. see TENNIS page 6 8-- 3-- 2-- 8, 4-- 8. 2-- Sophomore Nicole Pigott, a nursing major from Provo, practices on her return game.
