All NOTICE OF MEETING Stanley Duncan to dinner with them. This was a delightful evening. next early Leaving morning, they stopped at Riverside for lunch behind schedule. Our bus drivers got lost so we had an unscheduled tour of that city. After lunch at Swan Lake it was off to see dairies again. Five were scheduled but there was time for only two, Poal Brothers Vander and Henry Sterk. The next day, Feb. 10, we visited Agman Jay Em Bee, and Agman Corona Farms, both in California. These dairies are also owned by Agman Hidden Valley Dairy in Nev. These two dairies milk 7,000 head with some cows producing 100 pounds of milk per day. these After visiting lovely herds it was off to check into our motel at Anaheim, then to Disney tro, we visited the C.J. Sharp and Sons in Arizona. Four were scheduled but time would not permit. Some daries were so large that we boured them by bus. We stayed in Phoenix, Ariz. two nights. There we spent the evening with Clems missionary companion. The 13th was our day to rest. Most of the men went to Priesthood Meeting, then came back to get their wives. Can you imagine the look on the Bishops face as he shook hands with 58 people, which must have raised his ward's percentage. 58 people went to church, some went to the horse races and dog races and Feb. 14, went shopping. we visiteJ Johns Dairy, a brown Swiss herd of 394 cows. Some cows were over 10 years old and one cow weighed 2,300 pounds. One cow named Rayetta was purchased for $800 her bull calf sold for $60,000. At three years old she was Reserve Grand Champion. At four she was Grand Champion of all breeds. She had two years test of over 30,000 pounds of milk. After touring this outstanding dairy we went to Ragstaff for lunch, then on the Glen Canyon Dam. After touring the dam we went on to Kanab for the night. Long Valley Junction the next day then on to Richfield to the "Slice em Thin restaurant. There we held a birthday and farewell party for Mr. Barnard who was presented a gift and birthday cake. We really had a good time. It was a trip we will never land to ride the Matahom, and what a time we all had from noon to 6 p.m. Dinner at was that night Knotts Berry Farm. In San Diego next day, we went to Sea World and had an excursion at San Diego Harbor. At Atlantis Restaurant, our dinner stop that night, had a big sign, "Welcome, Utah State University. HEW Secretary Joseph Califano has solicited ideas and comment on welfare reform from more than 400 organizations and individuals and now is asking that HEW Regional Directors around the country seek additional views on welfare reform. The issues are many and will involve difficult ' choices such as eligibility, benefit levels, and integrations of supportive services, I.E., job training, medical assistance, counseling, etc. The basic problem, is of course, to revamp the welfare system so those truly in need receive the help they need with the best use of the tax dollar. I want to urge readers who are concerned with these issues to give me their ideas and recommendations on welfare reform so that I may transmit them to Secretary Califano by March 28, 1977. NEED Sheldon or Ferron, Acting Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Bureau of Reclamation Projects, told the two Utah Senators that the funding cut for '78 was based on benefit, environmental and safety problems. Senator Garn said of the budget cuts, The Central Utah Project is the only major water project we have in the state. Yes, the ratio is out of proportion compared to other projects in the country. So what. Water is Utahs lifeblood. Without it, the Utah population will dry up and blow away. Weve got to have the water to support the population. What does the President propose that drink? What does he propose that we use to water our crops? The Central Utah Project, even if it costs twice as much, is one of those things in this country that we have to have, regardless of the cost."
