DUTSON, WILLIAM V. WILSON AND MADELINE S. WILSON r We live in a world with very little real security. We cannot relax and say "The government will take care of me, Since we have just had plenty of examples of how difficult it is to supply fuel and food to people who are snowed in for days. While parts of our country are digging out from the i'nprecidcnted snow stoirms, other parts are suffering from drought. Man has very little control over either condition, however '.currying about our helpless situation solves nothing. Only those who have faith in a benevolent creator can feel secure and attain peace of mind. We not only have our worries about the drought, but now we have President Amin of Uganda, Africa, ordering over two hundred American not to leave the country until they meet with him. He also hurls insults against our government over the radio, hoping to belittle us in the eyes of the world. Just such incidents have been the cause of many of the wars of the past. We can all be thankful we have the United Nations which was organized especially to solve differences between nations and keep them from going to war. The many member nations which make no the United Nations, are represented by mostly dedicated men who meet and and discuss openly differences between nations, who try to get all of the facts NEWSPAPER NATIONAL MEMtlllOf nm miLTizs73 THC -1- 'J v r Mary Elizabeth and Rebecca Ann Foster Grande and Mary Davies, Fillmore, Charles and Eva Va. Lc- are: Grandparents each case before discussing it in the general assembly. the time the debates takes place, the public is keenly aware of the situation, and through the news media, the people all over the world are aware of the facts. No nation wants to act entirely against the will of the common people. It is easy to hurl charges against a nation, as President Amin of Uganda is doing against the United States, however to be able to substantiate these charges before the United Nations is a very difficult matter. But wars are caused by radicals who act hastily and think about the effects after the act has been committed. Members of the United Nations are trying diligently to work out a plan for doing away with nuclear war, since nuclear war materials in the hands of a few radicals could destrov all of humanity in a very short time. If we are ever to live in a peaceful world we must all work together to build a powerful United Nations, where the differences between nations can be discussed in an intelligent manner and solved without the loss of millions of our young men and women. Each nation is dependent on some other nation or nations for some of the necessities of life. If we had a strong United Nations, trade agreements could be made between Nations which would be beneficial to all of the Nations. The Arabs could not demand such outrageous prices for their oil, without alienating the rest of the nations of the world. Each Nation would feel secure in developing its Natural Resources, knowing that it will have a market for all it can produce, if each Nation would be fair and just. The way to make this ideal condition come about is for all of us to start dealing absolutely honestly with our own friends in our town. Each can develop his talents and be willing to share them in making an ideal place in which to live without fear or distrust.
