Officers seek identities of those missing hood ornaments MORONI Individuals who been have victims of hood may ornament thefts are being sought as part of an ongoing investigation which has resulted in the arrest of 15 juveniles and the recovery of 38 hood ornaments. According to Police Chief Emil Cluff, the thefts, which were limited exclusively to Moroni, have occurred during the past three months from a variety of vehicles. He estimated the value of the ornaments from $50 to $300. All the juveniles apprehended during the investigation, males between the ages of 11 and 15 years of age, have been referred to juvenile authorities. The juveniles were unable to recall who their victims were or when all the thefts occurred. They allegedly were competing with one another to see who could obtain the best hood ornament. The ornaments would then be used to make necklaces. Chief Cluff said he hopes victims will come forward so they are able to obtain restitution for loss of their property. Once the juveniles are processed through the juvenile court system, victims who have not come forward will no longer have an opportunity to seek restitution. Those who think they may have been a victim are urged to contact the Moroni or Mt. Pleasant police departments. |
