Show 13 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, February 2,2006 ISpringville Museum of Art says "Thank you" to benefactors and volunteers ; The Springville Museum of Art said thank you to all the people who combine to make the museum a success last week at the annual Benefactor Benefac-tor and Volunteer Dinner. 'Wendy Magrath, 2005 bast-president of the Hafen Dallin Volunteer Guild, and Pat Hansen, 2005 Volunteer Coordinator, both received Volunteer of The Year Awards for their untiring service to the museum. ; The dinner is hosted every year to thank all the people who help and donate to the museum to make it a success. suc-cess. This year's dinner had a Mexican theme in decorations decora-tions and food. One of the high lights of the dinner was viewing the new acquisitions that came to the museum in 2005. The exhibt of fifty-two paintings and statues have an appraised value of $997,200 and include pieces from early Utah artists and others. The Springville Museum of Art thanks all those who make it possible for the museum mu-seum to operate, allowing thousands to enjoy the art work. As a non-profit organiza tion, benefactors and volunteers volun-teers are crucial to the success suc-cess of the museum. There are many ways to contribute, con-tribute, from helping with catering and publicity for special events, to taking in art work for shows, decorating, decorat-ing, helping children with art projects, giving tours to school groups, interacting with the public as a desk receptionist, re-ceptionist, and the list goes on. Maple Mountain Dentistry is located lo-cated across from the new Mapleton Community Center at 425 N. Maiin. The office is now open for patients and features state-of-the-art dentistry. The convention allows students to exhibit their creative abilities and use problem solving thought processes in coming up with new and innovative ideas of their own. The inventions were shown to parents and other students at Sage Creek. Some inventions included, a lemon powered light, robot lamp, fishing tote and remote controlportable phone. Defensive driving course The Utah Safety Council is now offering four-hour defensive de-fensive driving courses for individuals in the ProvoOrem area. Courses are held throughout through-out each month, at the Utah Valley State College (Orem Campus). Also, Spanish defensive de-fensive driving is held once a month in our Salt Lake location. lo-cation. The four-hour course consists con-sists of classroom instruction instruc-tion and focuses on accident prevention, driving confidence, confi-dence, awareness of hazards haz-ards and improving driving skills. Registration is $40 per person, or $10 for those age 55 and over that are only seeking a reduction in their insurance rate. They met in at the Sandy Library and learned about the program pro-gram and what makes a GREAT story. Hawkes talked about when she was a reporter for ESPN and what she learned about reporting. She shared that sometimes you have to dig deeper to get the interesting inter-esting story and that often news crews spend over an hour interviewing inter-viewing someone for thirty seconds to a minute of tape time.
