Mrs. Leavitt is presently a consumer and homemaking education teacher at Union high school. Mrs. Leavitt, wife of Jack W, Leavitt, has taught in Roosevelt for 22 years. She is the advisor to a very active Future Homemakers of America chapter. She y from Brigham graduated and received the Hazel Noble ' i v Young-Universit- The West Jr- - h9h dril1 team' which is the only high drill team in Utah, has performed at school activities in Altamont, West Jr. high and Vernal and will continue to perform throughout the year at school functions. ?R Boyack award given to the outstanding home economics graduate. She has also attended Utah State University and the University of Utah. She majored in foods and nutrition, and studied clothing and textiles. She holds a Vocational Home Economics Certificate. Throughout the years Mrs. Leavitt has held teaching positions in the Spanish Fork high school and the Roosevelt high school. She is a member of the National Education Association, Utah Education Association, Maxine Burdick is recovering from surgery. She had been taken to Salt Lake by Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Day. Maxine returned to Duchesne last Monday and went into Salt Lake Friday for a doctor's check-up- . Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Carmen traveled to Salt Lake Wednesday on business. Mrs. Jerry Merkley hosted the DUP last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert McGhee arrived home last Monday after enjoying a months vacation. The couple traveled throughout Illinois, Indiana, Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado, visiting with friends and relatives. Charley Cruth and family were in Duchesne visiting with friends and family during last week. Mr. and Mrs. John Manning recently returned to Duchesne after a weeks stay in Denver. John had been attending special classes presented by the Shell Oil Company. While there, the couple visited with Kitty's sister, Norita, and her husband, Del Wiegand. Mrs. Niel Moon and Mrs. Ronald Robbins traveled to Salt Lake Monday and Tuesday of last week. Mr. H. K. LeFevre recently returned from the Veteran's Hospital in Salt Lake, where he was recovering from surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Powell were proud to announce the birth of their new daughter, Diane. She was born Monday the 17th at 3:22 a.m. in the Duchesne County Hospital. Ivan and Emma Ross were in Duchesne last week visiting with their relatives the Harold Gees. e Visiting this past weekend with the Deon Brown family were D eon's father Alburn Brown from BickneD, his sister and brother-in-lafrom Koosherm, Garth and Evelyn Bagley and their son Dave who has recently returned from an LDS mission to Belguim. Also visiting were Deon's sister and her husband Lou and Jim Stephenson from Salt Lake. Mike and Denice Floyd took their son Rusty to Heber to the hospital Sunday to have his tonsils removed. Mr. and Mrs. Porter Merrill have their daughter from Phoenix visiting this week and are expecting their son and his family from Rexburg, Idaho, their son and family from American Fork and their daughter and her family from Washington for the Thanksgiving holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Mitchell are proud to announce their new grandchild Annette A. Peatross. She was born to Susan and Kent Peatross on the 4th of November at 8 lbs. 7 ounces and 19 inches. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Thomas recently received word that they have a new Curtis Patrick Scott. He was born in Springfield, Virginia to Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Scott on the 10th of November. Jeff Smith, formerly of Duchesne, is working as a laboratory technician in the new medical clinic, Southwood in Sandy, where his lather, Dr. John E. Smith, has an office suite. Dr. Smith was the medical doctor in Duchesne in the early 1950's when the health center was first constructed. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Garner traveled to Salt Lake City Saturday morning and returned home Sunday afternoon. Kerrie Taylor was home this weekend from the BYU campus. LaDale Mitchell returned to Provo Sunday evening after a weekend of visiting in Duchesne. Mrs. Sylvia Meacham traveled to Salt Lake City last Sunday with her son, Blaine Meacham. The two of them visited with relatives and returned to Duchesne Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert L. Meacham and their daughter Tamera traveled to Provo Sunday. They visited with their oldest daughter, Gwen, on the BYU campus. Mr. Dennis Hullinger recently returned from American Fork where he visited his wife in the hospital. The two are proud parents of their baby girl, Alisa Ann. Mrs. Hullinger will be staying with her parents until after Thanksgiving. Mr. and Mrs. Max Hall and family traveled to Las Vegas last Thursday, visiting with family and friends. Mrs. Helen Odekirk traveled to Salt Lake City Tuesday with Hedge Palmer. While there, they stayed with Mrs. A.A. Palmer and returned home Wednesday evening. Rick Altenhoff is spending the winter in Argyle Canyon at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Neville L. Wimmer. CITY CHRISTMAS TREE-T- he Roosevelt City Christmas tree went up Monday, with the assistance of Post No. 64 American Legion members, Roy Hall, Steve Bellon, Ernie Christmas festivities begin in Roosevelt Christmas for Roosevelt's Plans festivities got underway this week, with the stringing of the Christmas lights and setting up this years Christmas tree, on the First Security Bank corner. Yet, by many, that event went unnoticed. The event? The separation of the last from the United States Army. The significance? The volunteer Army had proved a success. Why was the event largely passed over? Perhaps because such virtues as patriotism and dedication are, to many, anachronistic. Perhaps because some of the media withdraw from any event that is not at least somewhat antiestablishment. But the fact remains. America's young men and women said, and continue to say, that they care enough about the American way to commit some or all of their working lives to preserving it. This Thanksgiving, on the anniversary of that statement, America and her friends around the world should be truly thankful. America, your sons and daughters hear you. has been residing in the Salt Lake City area. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin White are enjoying a ten day vacation in Hawaii. Mr. White is attending Central Utah Water District Conservation meetings. The couple visited the islands after the three day business convention and returned to Duchesne Wednesday. The Royden G. Hill family have moved into their new home near the Gateway Motey they operate. They bought the home recently that was the residence of Hildur and Francil Brooks. Santa's visit will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the First Security Bank corner where he will talk with children and hand out sacks of candy to those who come to see him. This years Community Christmas project is under the v direction of Chairwoman, Ellen Rawlings. Mrs. Ed Yack is Chairwoman in charge of for this years musical arranging Christmas program, and BPW club women will be responsible for judging lighting and home decorations. It was also announced that this year there will be no cash award gjv; n but pictures of homes chosen will be printed in the Uintah Basin Standard. Socialette Club will purchase, sack, and help distribute candy this year while the American Legion was responsible for cutting the Christmas Tree and setting it up. Assisting the Legion was the Moon Lake Electric Company. This years tree was donated by the Garth Sorenson family. It was decorated Tuesday, under the direction of Lawrell Jensen. The Lions Club made the arrangements for Santa Claus to be present. Decorating city streets and the Christmas tree is the job of the city. Times and schedules for judging homes and presentation of Christmas music will be announced at a later date. Isabell Roberts, representing the American Legion Auxiliary is in charge of publicity. lights were strung on Roosevelt's main street, Monday, by Kent Denver, John Daniels and other Moon Lake employees, in preparation for the City's holiday festivities.
