Show Thomas M. Mathews , Dies After Lingering Illness Thomas Melvin Mathews, 76, of Cedar City died of a lingering illness Sunday night at the Valley Val-ley View Medical Center. Funeral Funer-al services were conducted Wed- nesday afternoon at the Seventh-Ninth Seventh-Ninth Ward Chapel and burial was at the Cedar City Cemetery. He was born December 3, 1888 In Minersville, Beaver Coanty, to Thomas C. and Mary Ellen Mathews. Ma-thews. He served on an LDS Mission Mis-sion to the North Western States. He married Thressa Black in October 1910 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Survivors include his widow and sons and daughters: Donald, John, Mrs. Carson (Vie) Sprague, Mrs. Danton (Berneice) Henrie, all of Cedar City; Clark, Orem; Howard, Thousand Oaks, Calif, and Mrs. Ward (Bonnie) Perry, Salt Lake City. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren grand-children and 19 great-grandchildren. Brothers and sisters, Lynn, of Roy, Utah; Lloyd, Mrs. Julian (Athetha) Gilllans and Mrs. Ser-win Ser-win (Pauline) Wood, all of Minersville. Mi-nersville. Speakers at the services Included Includ-ed Taylor Farnsworth and Edwin Ed-win C. Cox, with remarks by Bishop Bis-hop Robert Linford. Special must- cal numbers included a vocal solo by Ralph Hafen "In the Garden," Gar-den," a vocal duet, by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wood, "Oh, My Father," Fa-ther," and an organ medley by June Thorley. Prayers were by Frank Petty and Lorin Condie. Dedication of the grave at the Cedar City cemetery ceme-tery was by Lynn Mathews. |
