Show Oh, Bernhardt as Innocent Juliet. London, Feb. 23. Much amusement is caused by Sarah Bernhardt's ingenious declaration that she dreads to essay the roles of Ophelia and Juliet lest she be unable un-able to indicate the degree of innocence and simplicity which they require. An unkind critic inquires if Sarah wishes it to be inferred that her years of girlish innocence in-nocence were so brief as not to have left any impression on her recollection. In spite of all this, no doubt is felt that the appearance of the eccentric French artiste ar-tiste in Shakespearian characters will be an interesting dramatic event and one that will result in valuable addition to stage traditions that have gathered around these creations. . |
