He did caution, that were not going to step out and annex something we cant serve." ( incident in which four Kaysville youths were allegedly shot at while walking to Kaysville Junior High School. Its kind of really a confused deal, Police Lt. Elmer Morrison said. We kind of have to take the witnesses words that someone shot at them . . . but we havent found any casings or anything. Gayla Clontz, 12, Teran Arban, 11, Susan Price, 12, and Steven Price, 11, told police a man standing at the southeast corner of the vocational school in the vicinity of 500 East and 300 South took a shot at them while they were crossing a nearby field about 7:30 a.m. They said they heard a loud report and saw the dirt stirred up about 10 feet in front of them. The children gave police a description of the person they said shot at them. They also described a truck in which they said the suspect drove away. The children said the suspect was about five feet 9 inches tall, in his 20s, had dark, stringy hair, and wore a golf shirt and levis. He was reportedly driving a small yellow Datsun pickup truck. Weve checked out all the leads, Lt. Morrison said. Im not really convinced that whats been reported is what really happened. He noted that a custodian at the vocational school said he was entering one of the temporary school buildings at the southeast corner about the same time and saw no one around, although he did say he heard a shot. Morrison said the children might have seen the custodian carrying a vacuum cleaner and mistaken it for a rifle. improvement of rifle range, which is owned by the county. Money to purchase the needed concrete will be drawn from that fund. Commissioner Morris Swapp said he was glad to see the improvements being made, saying the shooters association was making a lot of people happy. The commissioners also voted to earth-movin- g delay advertising for bids oin work planned for the rifle range, saying they would wait to see if the SeeBees of Ogden will agree to do the job free of charge. In other business, the commissioners signed a lease agreement with the Utah Department of Public Safety Driver License Services Department. The Department of Public Safety has agreed to pay $6,468 per year to rent 1,125 feet of office space in the basement of the county courthouse. The county, which used to let agencies occupy office space at no cost, recently has begun to charge rent to outside organizations. The commissioners met with the county auditors in executive session at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss personnel and engineering firms should be invited to personally make a presentation to the council. Thq presentations will be given during a special council work session Tuesday. An engineering firm is expected to be selected at thte next regular council meeting Sept. 16. 1900 W.
