After a year of research into what type of computer could best handle the expanding load of information and accounting generated by the citys operations, the City Council approved the purchase of a Hewlett Packard HP3000 machine. The city received $12,000 from the sale of its old computer to Riverdale City. The transaction also included programs developed for the computer by Roy City. Added to that figure was $18,175 received by as a grant the police department from the Federal Law Enforcement Planning Agency to put the department records into computer programs. With those funds, the city purchased the hardware and programming to meet the needs determined by several years of study. The citys growth and other changes meant we had just outgrown our present computer system, Kirkwood said. We based our decision to go with the HP3000 on the citys size, growth potential and expected future needs. Kirkwood said the system has now been installed and training of city in its use is well under way. ROY COUNCILMAN Lynn Taylor shows off vegetables from his garden. Taylor teaches five or six classes per day, usually having around 35 students e in a class. Its a job. He said he is committed to the church education system. Ive taught evening school at Weber College LDS Institute, but right now my choice is to teach here at Sand Ridge, though I could just as well teach at BYU or anywhere in the world, he said.
