Everybody knows that girls can't play soccer. mean, God wanted wan-ted women to have their own soccer teams, He would' ve made Pele female. That's right, He. For one reason or another, American women aren't getting get-ting the message. Soccer leagues for women are springing up across the country. And even in Utah-bastion Utah-bastion of the happy home-maker home-maker women's soccer is taking hold. A league for adult women has been going for several years in the Salt Lake City area. Now it's Park City's turn. Under the leadership of Annie Bowman and Joy Rasmussen of the Park City Recreation Department, an effort is being made to form a local adult women's team. Bowman said Monday that about a dozen people, with soccer experience ranging from some to none, already have expressed interest in joining a team. "Half the people who have indicated an interest say they don't know much about soccer," she said. "You don't have to have any previous knowledge of the game. And you don't have to be in that good a shape, because we'll get you in shape." Bowman pointed out that many of the women have played field hockey, where the strategy is similar. The Recreation Department Depart-ment plans to invite the women's soccer team from the University of Utah to 1 Park City to conduct a clinic, tentatively on June 7. Plans call for the team to hold regular practices during the summer, then join the Salt Lake City league in Septem ber. Rasmussen and Bowman currently are looking for someone with experience coaching adult soccer, and also are trying to recruit a sponsor to share the cost of league fees. Still to come are such mundane chores as picking a team name (the "Park City Sirens" was one suggestion) and a team uniform (hot pink?). A meeting has been set for 7:30 p.m. May 27 at the Memorial Building for anyone any-one interested in joining the team. sBnnItoiDffliFdl 1A-2A Powerlift meet Listed below are the top three finishers among the 1A schools competing in the 1A-2A powerlift competition held Monday at Park City High School. 115 pounds NAME SCHOOL TOTAL Pace North Summit 736 Larsen, Les Park City 563 Lea vitt Trent ' Park City 420 125 pounds Bowen North Sevier 632 .
