Show Backpack treks set CEDAR CITY -Mutual of New York, is sponsoring two three-day backpacking treks to benefit, the Utah Lung 'Association.. "We are in the recruiting phase of the trek," said Steve Morris, ;trek; ' coordinator. '"Trekkers should register now so that they can schedule vacation time,,: and physically prepare for the trek." The first trek is the i Uinta Trek. It is i scheduled for Sept. 4-6, - (Labor Day Weekend) in the High Uintas just west of Mirror Lake. Trekkers will complete a challenging hike of 25 miles that will feature some of the most spectacular spec-tacular lakes and mountains to be found in trie state. The second trek, the Color Country Trek, is slated for Sept. 23-25 in Bryce National Park. This trek will cover 30 miles of Bryce's brilliant red and gold canyons and breathtaking vistas. Those interested in signing up for the trek shold contact the Utah Lung Association at 1616 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City, 84105, phone 484-4456. The purpose of both treks is to raise funds for a new Utah Lung Association program designed to help children with severe asthma. This innovative effort by the Lung Association is the first of its kind in the nation, and funding from the treks will facilitate its implementation throughout the state. I Because MONY has f paid for all the fund raising costs of the treks, all of the money raised will be used to benefit this program. F Trekkers will obtain pledges from friends, neighbors, relatives and ; businesses to sponsor their participation in the ' I trek. In return, the Lung Association will be handling all the details of i the trek. They will supply I breakfast and dinner for the trekkers, host an orientation session, publish trek newsletters, collect money from the trekker's sponsors and provide trek leadership and emergency back-up.
