Carlisle receives award Dancers from the Danz Dimensions Studio traveled to Lagoon Amusement Park to compete in the U.S.A. Dance Championships on Friday, June 9th. They had a fun time competing and spending the day enjoying the rides, rain or shine. The studio entered three team dances as well as three soloists, three duets and a trio. First up was the Sr. Danz Team. They performed two routines. In the 7th, 8th, 9th Grade Jazz Division, they earned 2nd place and in the Hip Hop Division, they took 4th. Members who competed are: Amanda Martinez, Amy Calton, April Butcher, Ashley Dye, Becky Crawley, Breanna Fredrickson, Emily Calton, Holly Collins, Kasey Bartholomew, Kayla Dye and Mariah Ellet. The Preschool Team then performed a tap routine. They took home top honors. The first place dancers are; Allie Snarr, Breonna Bingham, Gracy Christenson and McKenzie Olsen. The studio then had two girls compete in the 10th Grade and Over Lyrical Solo Division. Heather Naylor was crowned Queen and Jessica Hansen was named 1st Attendant. The Jr. Danz Team competed in the 3rd, 4th, 5th Grade Hip Hop Division. Alyssa Kirkman, Andie Clark Knight Photography Robinson, Carlie Fredreckson, Chelsey Hyatt, Kaitlyn Hyatt, Kaylee Broderick, and Madelynn Christenson took 4th place. Two members of the Pre K Team competed with a tap routine. GenaLynn Christiansen and Kira Curtis were crowned Queens in the Tiny Duo Division. The Mini Danz Team also competed with a tap routine in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Grade Trio Division. They earned 3rd place. Members include: Cassi Hansen, Makayla Robinson and Maggie Armstrong. The day ended with Kayla Dye competing in the Senior Hip Hop Division, placing 4th. In the Little Duo Division, Chelsey and Kaitlyn Hyatt placed 5th with their Hip Hop routine and Carlie Fredrickson and Madelynn Christenson placed 4th with a Jazz routine. Danz Dimensions will be holding an Open House Registration for summer classes on Wednesday, June 14th from 2 until 7 p.m. at the studio, upstairs at 98 South Main in Gunnison. Summer classes are offered for ages 8 and above and include two levels of Jazz and Ballet as well as Hip Hop and Tap. If you have any questions or would like to register, call TeriLce at 5283012. On June 7th in Park Cily at the Utah Highway Patrol Association Awards Banquet, Sgt. Thayne Carlisle was awarded the Lynn Pierson Award for Distinguished Service. Sgt. Carlisle was nominated by those with whom he works. The award is given to one trooper a year who has at least 10 or more years of service with the patrol. The nominee must actively serve and be a respected person of integrity in his community. Thayne's nomination letter stated that the troopers who serve under his direction appreciate his positive encouragement, his knowledge and his example. Thayne continuously receives superior ratings and exceeds the standards set for him. In addition to his regularly assigned duties Thayne is. a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician and Instructor. He spends many hours all over Central and Southern Utah making sure people keep their kids safely buckled in car seats. He also enjoys spending time instructing kids in Driver's Ed classes and elementary schools in our area. He has kept his EMT certification up to date even though it is no longer required by his department. When not at work he spends a lot of his time with the Boy Scouts in the capacity of Scout Master, as well as being a youth basketball and football coach, The Troopers and Office Technician of Section B, Richfield area stated that "Sgt. Carlisle is, by far, the best supervisor, we have ever worked with.". Thayne's family couldn't be prouder of his accomplishments and the recognition he has received %emember When... Tim Christenson President Bruce Bartholomew Vice President Axtell News byAUDREYBOORE A group from Axtell spent last week on a cruise ship to Alaska's Inside passage. Three short stops were made in Juneau, Skagway and Kelchikan where they made short shore excursions. Most of the day was cloudy, foggy, windy weather with rain. A couple times the group did see the sun and warm weather. Eating around the clock was a past time enjoyed by all. The evening meals could be taken in the dining room where five course meals were enjoyed. New foods were tried at this time. The Dance group danced two times and the lighting crew on the ship added to the dance with lights and smoke. Enjoying the cruise from Axtell were Andy, Cadence, Cheyenne and Bailey Thatcher, Kevin and Monique Despain, BreeAunna Davis, Sam and Sandra Brown, Sammy Brown, Maren Brown, Katie. Brooke, Mitchell and Brent Heath, Chad, Ben and Audrey Boore. The Axtell Cub Scouts attended the annual cub scout day camp in Gunnison this past week. The 3rd and 5th grades at the Gunnison Elementary School students took the Iowa test of basic skills. Many students throughout the Unites States take the test. A large number of the Gunnison students scored in the top 10 percent of all the students taking the test in one or more subjects they were tested in. 3rd graders from Axtell in the top ten percent were Danielle Boore and Jodie Hartley. Elli Reber in the 5th grade placed in the top ten percent. Honor roll 4.0 students at the Gunnison Middle School was, 7th grade, Bailey Thatcher. Honor Roll students were BreeAunna Davis, Nicole Mecham, Drew Despain from the 8th grade. In 7th grade students were Hailee Buckland, Dalton Burr. 6th grade students were Ty Blackburn and Chad Boore. Many friends and family members honored Kaye and Marius Despain on their 50th Wedding Anniversary at an open house Saturday June 10th at daughter Lone's home in Centerfield. Kaye's sister, May Dawn Larsen of Gunnison, Colleen and Roger Rasmussen of Farmington. New Mexico, nieces and nephews Mike and Jill Davis of Farmington, New Mexico, Linda and Paul Meridith of Pason, Utah, Jim and Barb Rasmussen of Larmie, Wyoming, Earl and Shelia Bastian of St. George. Marius's sister and brothers attending were Jim and Evelyn Murry St. George, Marlene Despain Fillmore, Utah, Arlo Despain Sandy Utah. Marius's twin brother Merrill of Layton, Utah, Carolyn Ellis, Payson, Utah and LeVell of Axtell, Utah. All of Kaye's and Marius1 children and grandchildren hosted the open house. Greg and his family live in Smithfield, Utah with the other children, Louie, Kerry, Kevin, Julie and Marcie living in Valley around Axtell. A special friend attending was Ga Wisdom from Cedar City, Utah. Remember the Axtell community yard sale June the 17 at the Axtell Post Office. Proceeds from this year is marked for improving the parking lot and a water system. Everyone is to bring their things to sell and man their own table. The day camp was held in the Gunnison City Park on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday last week. The boys had a great time participating in archery, BB guns, leather work, digging in a giant sand box for dinosaur bones, a bounce house, swimming and many other activities.
