Show FIRST HEARING IN LYNCHING CASEREMOTE Defendants Not Ready to Go Before Court, Ask for More Time riilCE, June 24. The date for (be Holding of the preliminary hearings hear-ings of the men arrested here on the alleged charge of participate in the lynching of Robert Marshall, negro,, who killed J. M. Burns, town marshal of Gastle Gate, is still in the future, according to O. K. Clay, county uttorney for Carbon county., "We have been ready for several days to proceed with the hearing of the men now in: custory on the alleged al-leged lynching charges," said Attorney At-torney Clay, "but thus far none of the men are ready to preceed. Some of them have not even engaged council coun-cil to repersent them at the hearing. "The case of Charles Atwood, one of the first four men to be arrested on the charge was set for Thursday, but now he announces that he is not ready. I have announced to the men that they may have as long a period as they desire in which to proceed with the trial. "The prosecution is ready to take the case before the court today, tomorrow to-morrow or any other time that is best suited to the conveniences of those under arrest." ' Attorney Clay expressed the opinion opin-ion that the case may be heard sometime some-time next week. |
