Show OREM TIMES Thursday, July 12, 2007 Residents form Healthy Lindon Organization t Stacy Johnson U'Ui I OUN1Y STAIF With the light of the sunrise in the background, the streets of Lindon are often lined with runners, all trying to improve their health through exercise. A group of health conscious Lindon residents joined together togeth-er for the first time June 13 to form the new Healthy Lindon Organization. The group is taking on the challenge of helping fellow Lindon residents become more health conscious by encouraging encourag-ing healthy eating habits and exercise. "Our future health is determined de-termined more bv what we do than what people in white coats do," said Alan College, a Lindon physician serving as a member of the organization. "Our health is dramatically influenced by two things, the way we eat and how we exercise." exer-cise." The committee plans to make those in the city healthier by helping them realize the benefits of healthy living, and encouraging the lifestyle change throughout the city. "Basically, our goal then is to educate and motivate," said Joni Donithorne, committee member. The group is working to plan events and programs that will encourage more healthy habits by residents. One of their ideas is a system that would connect residents throughout the city with exercise exer-cise partners. They discussed the idea of putting the system on the Web site, or at the city hall building. "I would be such a value if we could bring people together that enjoy the same activities, if we could provide companionship," companion-ship," said Thaylene Rogers, member of the organization. "It is very important to have people at your level that en- -joy doing the same types of things." Another idea was a mentor system where the organization would provide classes for those needed to change bad health habits could learn and be motivated. mo-tivated. "If this committee could somehow bring a public awareness aware-ness about what is available here in Lindon to people elementary el-ementary age to geriatric age we would be able to help motivate moti-vate them," College said. The group plans to kick off their event at the annual Lindon Lin-don Days event held August 4 to 11. "We're excited to help Lindon Lin-don residents get on the move, get them happy and healthy," Rogers said. "It is important because people can't be well emotionally if they are falling apart physically." STACY JOHNSON North (.ounly Greta Buckley, Lynne Niclson und dreg Wood, ull Lindon !f:idrnis (.'
