Show New Year's Day, Although there was much enjoyment enjoy-ment in the city on New Year's, it was one of the most quiet days of the season, the" absence of rowdyism and boisterousncss calling forth general gen-eral remark. The amusements were of the usual class on such occasions. The time honored custom of making calls which has been practiced but little in.Utah was one of the features of the day, and everybody and his acquaintances called upon friends, and wished them a "Happy New Year." In the afternoon the matinee mati-nee performance at the theatre attracted at-tracted a crowded house, and in the evening balls, parties and private sociables were made pleasant by the presence of hundreds of enjoyment seekers. There was not a street fight nor other unpleasant occurrence to mar the quiet merriment of the occasion. The present year was inaugurated in-augurated in good style, and we hope 1 the ending will not be less pleasant than the beginning. |
