T A TAX PAYING COMPANY Box Elder sen-iowas crowned the junior division heavyweight champion In the annual Golden Gloves tournament last Friday night in the Ogden high school gym. Carey gained the championship after a rousing battle with Jack Dalton, Penrose, Carey drew byes throughout the tournament because of his victory In the A. A. U. meet last January 9, also in Ogden. The contest with DDalton was Inked as an even battlo and was a crowd pleaser during the three fast moving rounds. Early in the first round, Dal ton moved in fast on the husky Box Elder battler and got a good solid punch in the stomach of Carey. Carey slipped and fell to the canvas. Dalton - kept Carey in hot water the rest of the first round. After a short rest, Gerald surprised the challenger with sharp blows to the head as the second round open ed. Dalton probably figured Careys wind was gone after the first round, but that is where he met his Waterloo." Carey ust waded In and had the Penrose boy out cold but still on his feet when the bell ended the final round. Carey says, "After he poked me in the stomach, 1 was scared and kept away from him during the remainder of the first round. felt much better in the second and third rounds and 1 kept gaining on him. The last round was when I really had him. I let go with everything." Other boys from Box Elder In the meet were Tom Ishida and Jerry Nelson. Varge Lowe and Gene Walker, former Bees, were also In the meet representing Weber college. Tom was beaten in the second round of fights by the boy who went on to win the champion ship. Jerry Nelson was decl sioned in the semi-final- s also by the champion. ' Biggest up-se- t of the first night was when scrappy Varge Lowe lost his championship crown in the 118 pound division. Gene Walker went on to stardom by winning his second Golden Gloves championship with his triumph in the 126 pound division. r, Mel Woods Weber Warriors won the Region One wrestling meet last Saturday evening In the Warriors home gym.
