Sunday morning from a four week tour of the ancient Toltec and Aztec ruins in Mexico. leaking the trip in the company of, 11 other people all from Utah and southern Idaho, they traveled by car .on the road from here all the way to the South Mexico border and inspected all the major ruins of the old American civilizations. Among the ruins visited were those at Oaxco on the Southern Mexico border, the ruins of Monte Alban, a set at Mitla. They visited Vera Cruz and from there flew on the Pan American Airways to merida on the Yucatan pennlsula. The Yucatan pennisula is not connected to the mainland by road. While on the pennisula they visited the archealogically famous Chicken ltza and the ancient city of Uxmal. Later on the trip they visited Mexico City and Guada La Jara west of there. Baird said he was particularly Impressed with one giant pyramid that had over a hun dred miles of. exploratory tun nels drilled into it. When dug into, the pyramid was found to have two earlier structures inside of it. There is a clear difference be tween the Toltec (the earlier Indians) and the Aztec (later Indians) construction, Baird said. While on the trip the group drove 7500 miles in their cars besides travelling hundreds of miles by plane.
