Show THE CARBONICLE VOLUME 29 CARBON COLLEGE PRICE UTAH FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 17 1954 AWS Elects New Officers Educators Honor President Jones Pres Aaron E Jones was given high distinction last week end by educators from higher institutions who met at the University of Utah He was elected to the position of president of the Utah Conference on Higher Education Mr John Yack was chosen secretary of the section on curriculum If there is a Carbon College next year the annual convention of the higher educators will be held here If not it will go to Westminster Dr Jones reports that much at the time and interest of the sessions were devoted to the junior college question The keynote was struck by Dr Daniel Dykstra Dean of the University of Utah Law School when he urged that the state must be very sure what it is doing in the matter of junior colleges Many serious questions are involved in proposals regarding four of our state Pepsters Chosen New students at Carbon swallowed their first dose of pep rally enthusiasm Wednesday when four snappy groups of pepsters competed for permanent offices as song and cheer leaders The two groups of sparkplugs who will supply enthusiasm and spirit were composed of newcomers and perennial favorites g uni'Back in their forms this year were La Rae Fausett Mary Platis and agile Arthur Valdez They were aptly supported by Marilee Davis and Bob Warren making a spirited group of five Merlcne Powell a veteran cheer leader has traded her megaphone for a pair of pom poms to become a song leader With her are four new pom pom packers They are Jenna Lee Myers Mary Jimmy Welch and Shirley Esman These ten enthusiasts will perform tonight and tomorrow night under the stadium lights when they direct the student body to "cheer for old Carbon" cheer-leadin- Tal-lerl- co YEARBOOK UNDERWAY Tuesday noon loads of students turned up in Room 11 to try out for the yearbook Reports from Editor Rudy Polltano are that the yearbook will soon be on its way to a successful year The Associated Women Students of Carbon elected new officers Monday with balloting taking place first period The results were as follows: Shirley Fazzio president Maugh-a- n and Carolyn Anderson secretary-- !
