In Hillcrest's only match, the Huskies won 1 over Alta Friday. Prior to the loss to Hillcrest, Alta had 1 notched two wins, over Taylorsville Wednesday and over West Jordan Thursday. Bingham gained a split, finishing with a 1 win over West Jordan Friday. Though Brighton won all five individuals over Bingham Thursday, a couple were fairly close. At first singles, R.J. Steven's nipped Cory Jesse and at first doubles Brighton's David Boyle and Craig Parry defeated Jason Jack and Shawn Rindlesbacher Also picking up wins for the Bengals were Trent Wignell at second singles Frank Sanchez, third singles, and John Lee and Matt Bennett, second doubles, The same lineup was in action for Brighton against Taylorsville. Alta probably had the best week of any of the area's six high teams. The Hawks school 8 in the stopped Brighton boys' division and the Alta girls 113-2- won 103-2- 9. Among the first place winners for the Alta boys were Todd Larsen in the high hurdles and the 200, Jeff Davis in the 100, Kevin Arlington in the 800 and 1600, Eric Ulis in the shot put and discus, Brian McCleary in the high jump, Joey Gale in the long jump, Dave Williams in the pole vault, and all three relay teams. Larsen was also second in the 100 and Davis second in the 200. For Brighton, James Smith won the two mile, Rick Pearmain the 400, and John Miller the javelin. In the girls' meet, Alta's top included Michelle placers Stewart in the 100, Mindy Pickering in both hurdles and the 200, Janelle Davidson in the 400, Kirsten Aure in the 800, Qndy Melendez in the high jump, Tonya Booth in the shot and discus, Wendy put Horlacher in the javelin, and all three relay teams. Brighton's Celsa Bowman won both the mile and two mile and Lauri Ward took the long jump. Alta's boys finished second at Weber with 50 points to first place Clearfield's 64. The top finishers for Alta were Dave Williams second and John . Petersen third in the pole vault; Brian McCleary second in the high jump; and the mile relay team second. In the girls' meet on Friday the Hawks were third with 58 points behind Weber and Clearfield. Kirsten Aure gave Alta a first in the 800 and 1600 meters; the 400 relay team was second, the mile relay team fourth, and the medley team fifth; Mindy Pickering took fourth in the 100 hurdles; Janelle David was fifth in the 400 and 200; April Bailey was fifth in the 3200; Sharon Siebold took third in the shot put; and Alisa Whitney was fifth in the high jump. Brighton's best Weber State finish was a second in the two mile from Celsa Bowman. Hillcrest which had its dual with Bingham cancelled, but at the Weber Invitational the boys' mile relay team took third. For the ladies, Leslie Neebling won the discus, Julie Menlove was fifth and Amy Snyder sixth in the 300 hurdles, and the 400 relay team placed fourth. Jordan also had its dual cancelled, but Russell Muir helped make up for it by winning the 800 at the Weber Invitation. Dave Reniker Bingham's finished second to Muir in the 800 and gave the Miners a first in the Kris 1600. For the ladies, Peterson placed sixth in the 800. Ron Wamsley earned West Jordan a second in the 400 meters at Weber, while Natalie Malkogiannis was fifth in both the 1600 and 800. Leslie Neebling, one of the top high school athletes in the state of announced her Utah, intentions to remain in the Beehive State and play for the Lady Ute basketball team, according to head Ute coach Elaine Elliott. from The 5'11'" forward Midvale, chose Utah over Weber State and Idaho. A three-yea- r Neebling scored 1001 career points and grabbed 606 rebounds while playing for Hillcrest High. Neebling becomes the second Hillcrest star in two years to sign with the Utah program. Current Lady Ute Reggie Wright joined forces with Neebling as a prep in leading Hillcrest to two consecutive state championships. In addition to helping Hillcrest win two state titles as a sophomore and junior, Neebling role in a major played 19--1 and Hillcrest's 2 overall records during that span. The Region II Most Valuable Player this year, Neebling scored 16.9 ppg and collected 10.4 rebounds a contest. She hit 48 percent of her field goal attempts and 62 percent of her free throws as a senior. A three-spoathlete as a earned prep, Neebling honors as a volleyball player all four years.
