Hodson, recently retired - postal clerk, wa3 honor grueat at a banquet tendered by the post office employes, Friday eve-ning- at the Edna Mae Hedquist , 'home. Albert Rasmussen was toast-master, toast-master, and In behalf of the employes, em-ployes, he presented Mr. Hodson with a beautiful gold watch and chain. Postal employes and their wive3 were in attendance. Postmaster J. W. Dangerfield. Superintendent Raymond Green, Seth Scott, Edwin Bentley, Emil Jacobsen and other employes eulogized Mr.. Hodson for his loyalty, trustworthiness and long service. In response, Mr. Hodson spoke of conditions when he entered the service May 1. 1901, when ' there were two clerks instead of 30. as at present. He explained that there was no free delivery, either city or rural, and the public pub-lic was served through the general gen-eral delivery and post office boxes. box-es. Also that the parcel post system was not m force until 1912. Carroll, who are to be honored at a dinner Tuesday at the Edna Mae-Hedquist Well Known Provo. Couple To . Celebrate Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary; be youthful, despite their 60 years of married life. , On Tuesday they will be honored hon-ored at a dinner for relatives and some friends, to be given at the Eda Mae Hedquist home by their daughter , . and daughter-in-law Mrs. Carroll Harrison and Mrs. Elsie C. Carroll, who live at 256 North First At Aliair; A East will celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary Tuesday, Dec. 12. Mr. Carroll, who is 80 years old, was born in Provo ; his wife, Amelia Snyder Carroll, 76, was born in Salt Lake City. They met in Orderville, Utah, in 1877, their respective families having moved to southern Utah to join the United Order operated by the Latter-day Saint church at that time. After a courtship of a year and a half, Charles and Amelia were married in the St. George temple, December 12, 1879. They continued to live in the United Order as long as the system existed in Orderville. They speak of that experience as one of the happiest of their lives. . . .. - .-. During the following years, Mr. Carroll engaged in farming, saw-milling, and merchandising,' serving for a long period .as manager of the Orderville Co-operative store. He was active in the church organizations also, holding such offices as counselor In the bishr 1 opric for many years, president of lhe Y. M. M. I. A and superintendent superin-tendent of the Sunday school. He was active, too, in other phases of community life, , being at various vari-ous times a member of the board of, trustees in the county, serving on committees for irrigation projects and other civic improve ments." He was also at one time a nj ember of the state legislature. Ml-. Carroll's comment here Is that his wife has been a "good sport through it all." She, too, was very active in many community commun-ity enterprises. . She served for many . years as president of the Primary association in Orderville, and. worked in the Fifth ward Primary Pri-mary association after coming to Provo, 0 They moved to Provo in 1911 and for over 10 years Mr. Carroll worked for the state at the Utah State hospital. V ; They are the parents of seven children, three of whom are now living Dr. W: E. Carroll, a dean at the University of Illinois at Urbana, Illinois; Dr. Joseph S. Carroll, head of the electrical laboratories at- Stanford university, universi-ty, Palo Alto; California, and Mrs. Carroll Harrison of Springville, Utah. The late Dr. C. H. Carroll, medical , director at the Brigham Young - university at the time of his death, was their son. Two of their sons served in he World war, and the third was preparing pre-paring to join the army when the Armistice was signed. Mr. Carroll was awarded a medal by the treasury treas-ury department of : the United States during the war for patri- Girl Scouts To Raise Money A meeting of the 'senior Cn! During the more than half a century this couple have passed together, they have shared many struggles and hardships and sorrows. sor-rows. One ' of their grandsons is now an instructoron the Harvard faculty; , another Is with a large radio corporation in New York, City.
