The Needle Craft Club held their first meeting of the sea-son at the home of Mrs. Marva Whiting where the time was spent in making a beautiful appliqued quilt. Luncneon was served to fourteen club mem-bers by this year's officers, Harriet Nielson, Amanda Binks and Eva Bird. The next meet-ing will be held at the home of Mrs. Millie Bird in Provo on October 13. , Weekend visitors at the home of Mrs. Martha Houtz were her daughter and son-in-la- Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Harmon and family of Price. Other visitors at her home during the week were Mr. and Mrs. Lynn John-son and family of Stockton, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Bill Par-ry and family of Layton and Mr. and Mrs. John Cox and family of Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Whiting were in Salt Lake City Wed nesday of last week to attend the funeral services of her bro-ther Gary Sullivan. Her bro-ther Henry Sullivan of Califor-nia returned home with them to spend several days. Kristine Whiting and her room mate at the BYXJ attend-ed a drama presented by the inmates of the Utah State Pri-son Saturday. These girls are majoring in social welfare. At the Mapleton Jaycee's last meeting Paul Wiscombe of American Fork gave the fi-nal demonstration on Jr. Bowl-ing. Captain Douglas Brown was in charge of the meeting assisted by George Leifson, Niel Steiner and Frank Carne-secc- a. Refreshments were ser-ved. Specialist 4 Paul M. Hartley, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Hartley is home on a thirty-da- y leave from his base in Ger-many where he has been for twenty-thre- e months. When he leaves here he will go to Fort Lewis, Wash., to complete his remaining six rponths of ser-vice. Mapleton teachers who at-tended the NEA! in Salt Lake City last week were Dean Per-kins, Stewart Whiting and Al-ma Jensen. Mrs. Perkins and Mrs. Whiting accompanied their husbands. Mabel Hopla and Naomi Beardall also attended. Annette Jensen, seven year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alma Jensen is recovering from a broken arm received while roller skating near her home. Several new families have moved to Mapleton during the past month. Among them are Mr. and Mrs James H. Tay-lor, Mr. and Mrs. Lee A. Ro-bertson and Mr. and Mrs. Mau-rice D. Brown and their fami- - lies. Charles Whiting is .ill in the Hughes Memorial Hospital in Spanish Fork where he is re-ceiving treatment. Ten members of the priest-hood quorum, chaperoned by Boyd Hales, enjoyed a hayride recently, followed by refresh-ments at the home of Bishop Floyd Tuttle. A very successful ward ban-quet was held in the Mapleton Second ward one evening last week with the Relief Society in charge. Supper was served at six thirty. Mrs Nellie Wiscombe accom-panied her brothers and sister to Rupert, Idaho where they visited a sister, Mrs. Will Llewellyn who had a recent eye operation. An enjoyable afternoon was spent at the home of Mrs. Marva Whiting when Camp Mapleton DUP met for their first meeting. The lesson was given by Alice Johnson and the history of her grandfather given by Mrs. Belva Wentz. Luncheon was served to seven-teen members by the hostess assisted by Gladys Parry, Bel-va Wentz and Gen Allan. Dean Hall, spn of Mr. and Mrs. Max Hall has registered for the fall quarter in Snow College. Mrs. Vance Gividen enter-tained the members of her club at quilting at her home Tues-day. A tasty hot dinner was served. Mary Dibble has been visit-ing at the home of her par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Fay Dibble after training as a nurse at Denver, Colo.
