Show 7B Kearns High Representatives Are Chosen For Girls State KEARNS. Names of girls selected to represent Kearns high and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 132 at Girls State have been announced. Representing the school will be Holly Austin, Kristin Duckworth, Penny Egbert and Lori Jensen. Girls State is an annual event sponsored by the American Legion offering girls an opportunity to study democracy in action as they live in a mock state, electing officials and serving in various positions In the community. Miss Austin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Austin. She is president of the schools FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) club and also district council representative for that organization, a member of the debate team and club, member of the National Forensics League and French club. The Duckworth girl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Duckworth, was a class officer in her freshman year, member of FBLA for two years and In Community Schools Class Signup Is Under Way of the schools TV news team. She was chosen to attend the state business and leadership conference at Snow College. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs Clyde Egbert is involved in student of the swimming council, and water polo team, Key club president, involved in music and drama and holds a Kearns high service award. Miss Jensen is also on the student council and activities committee and serves as a peer counselor. She is a mmeber of French club, FBLA and tennis club. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Jensen. All four girls have been involved in many community and school service projects and leadership events. GRANITE PARK. Awaken is the catalog of classes which will get you up and going into Spring at a Granite community school, and it all begins April 7. Registration is being taken now, at all Granite community schools between 4 and 7 p.m. each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through the end of March and the first week in April. Because 13,000 people will register for classes this spring, two early registration opportunities will eliminate lines and concern for being able to get the desired class. A mail-i- n registration form can be found in the community education catalog of classes which has been sent to all mailing addresses in Granite School District. Clip this form from the catalog and send it along with the tuition to the community school where the class is taught. If a person has not received a class catalog, please call and requst one, or each of the libraries and the Granite schools have them upon request. registration FARMER FACTS Ninth, tenth and eleventh graders Granite high have entering 27, 1986 - registered for the coming year. There was a conflict with some ' new students not wanting to attend Granite high. They said, What has Granite got? Academically, Granite high does as well as any school. Last year Granite students received more than Two $430,000 in scholarships. students received National Merit Scholarships. There are seven A P. programs available and in the last two years, 172 students have passed the A.P. exams and received college credit. Almost 70 of those taking the test from Granite passed. There are seven finalists from Granite in the statewide Sterling Scholar contest. Only one other school in the region has more. In athletics, Granite high has done well in some sports and, though we have struggled n others, if Granite high goes 3A next year, where we should be, we will be a strong force in almost all comeptition. Registration for those classes which have not been filled during other registration days will be taken the first night of class. Many of the classes fill during preregistration days, so it is advisable to register early. With May and June being the traditional month of graduation, high school completion is being emphasized for many people who have been working on their requirements for graduation during night school could classes. Many complete their class work during spring term and receive a diploma during the June 13 graduation exercises. A counselor will be available at each of the community high schools to assist with finding out which classes are necessary to com- - to go to school during the regular evening classes which are offered at most of the community high schools. There are also learning centers open during the evening at most of the community high schools in the plete the graduation requirements. This assessment includes work experience, vocational or training, other educational experience, military training, service activities and other areas which are available for high school completion credit.
