will be bethe bethe bethe the scene of ot fierce and momentous battles And the probability is that these battles will not be so much between Republicans and Democrats Democrats Democrats Demo Demo- but between right and left groups within the administration itself That probability lity is the most significant thing about the coming session It is indicative of the fight that may come throughout the nation It is the reason why conservative business business business busi busi- ness once supremely critical o of Roosevelt now is more friendly It is the big question mark of the new deal Can the president cope with elements clements within with- with tin in the country and within congress which are arc much more radical than he ever thought of being To many once shocked by Roosevelt's left of oC center policy he is now considered the real bulwark o of ot more conservative interests Terrific Test The president as so often demonstrated Isa Isa is isa a master politician a genius m in n handling men But never has he met a test as rigorous as that which confronts him in the senate IOn J I JOn On one hand he lie faces abo about t 20 Progressives men of accomplished strategy of great side of the senate for seven years ears and his high-handed high boorish manners aroused such resentment that there was open talk two years ago of ousting him Since then Joe has climbed off his high horse has soft-pedaled soft his underlying conservatism The Arkansan is no liberal but he does the presidentS bidding Pat Harrison chairman of the finance committee committee com corn is s a close
