Show Dug way Area Highlights TEST RUN, Dugway Proving Ground. Friday. April 8. 1966 Riy Call by Lt. C. Hodge (Thin ii the iecond of a three part series on the history and highlight of some of the more interesting areas in the Dugway vicinity. The drawing was furnished by Eileen Degelbeck, Mail and Record.) Variable Reenlistment Bonus GO WITH THE MODERN ARMY!" This phrase is widely publicized and certainly is good advice. The decision to choose between military and civilian life is sometimes very hard, especially for those who are highly skilled. Most men who are holding critical positions in the U.S. Army can now be more folly rewarded for their skills when they choose to reenlist. The Department of Defense established die Variable Renlist-meBonus (VRB), which became effective 1 January 1066, and is payable to qualified first term reenlistees at a rate of up to four times the regular reenlistment bonus. Determining the number of times that a regular reenlistment bonus is multiplied depends upon how technical your MOS is and in which group it appears: 1, 2, 3 or 4. The more critical your MOS, the higher your multiplier will be. VRB is payable in addition to the regular bonus and has no effect on the maximum of 12,000 which a person may earn in regular reenlistment bonuses throughout a career. To be eligible for VRB a' member must be: 1) on a first Army enlistment with at least 24 months prior military service; 2) in a grade E-- 3 or higher (except for combat MOSs which require a soldier to be E-- 4 or high- er); 3) properly classified in die MOS for which the member is ' collecting VRB. For example: Lets asnune that you are in E-- 4 with 2 years active federal service at die time of your discharge and you are holding a technical MOS that is listed as highly critical and re-- ; quires a multiplier of 4. Should you decide to reenlist for 6 years, you would receive a VRB of which would be paid to you in six equal installments, with the first payment due at die time you draw your regular reenlistment bonus and another installment each year for die remaining five years. Income tax deductions will be at the rate of 14 percent . on each anniversary payment. The VRB was designed fori the purpose of retaining those of you who hold highly skilled and1 technical jobs. At the present time 247 MOS's are included in the' ' program, so you can see that now skills and will be recognized your paid for should you choose the U.S. Army as a career. Go With The Modem Army.
