People Back From ocietu ijotei Enjoyable KCC Trip Celebrate Salad Season To European Sites Rebecca Henderson Engaged , A large group of Magna and Hunter residents have returned from a most interesting Euio-peatour, sponsored by the Kennecott Copper Corp. They left Salt Lake City by plane June 10, stopped in New York City to refuel and then on to London, England, for an overnight stay. On June 12, the group took a ferry to Holland where they saw beautiful fields of flowers they missed tulip 'i - .A ' n I . Z a . The ladies were impressed with the immaculate white curtains in every window of Dutch residences. Some purchased curtains for their own homes, knowing they would be unable to find them in the United States. A number of local people remarked on the cleanliness of the country nary a weed. In Amsterdam, the travelers enjoyed a bus tour and a canal ride on a boat, remaining in this city for two days. They traveled to Bonn, Germany, where they stayed overtour, night, taking a thence to Cologne, Germany, viewing famous cathedrals, as buildwell as other ings. The following day the group took a steamer which took them past many old castles. Lunch was served on the boat. They went by bus to Heidelberg, Germany, remaining overnight, visiting the Black Forest, which is known for its beauty, and enjoyed a lovely lunch. From there, the travelers went to Lucerne, Switzerland, where they were served a special fondue and enjoyed supper with folklore entertainment, including yodeling, dancing and music of the Alpine horn. Then on to Como, Italy, and from there to Rome by train. Buses met them in Rome for a three-dastay. From Rome, the group traveled to Lousanne, Switzerland, then on to Paris, France, where a sightseeing tour was taken. They saw the Eiffel Tower, museums, etc., staying two nights, then back to London, thence home, going through customs at Baltimore, Md., arriving back June 27. Kennecott presented the ladies with cologne from the Black Forest while in Germany and the men received a tie from Italy. All the countries were beautiful, according to local people, but the majority favored Switzerland. Hunter area residents who went on the tour included: Mr. and JJrs. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph A. Henderson of Spanish Fork, Utah, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their attractive daughter, Rebecca, to Mr. Douglas C. Dean, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon C. Dean of Magna. Miss Henderson is a graduate of Spanish Fork High School and LDS Seminary. While attending high school, she was a be married Aug. 7 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He has attended Dixie College, obtained an associate of science degree from Snow College, and recently attended USU, majoring in biological science. The prominent pair plans 10 Dr. and Mrs. Peter E. Paulos of Anchorage, Alaska, have been visitors for several weeks of Dr. Paulos parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Paulos, and other relatives and friends in this area. MAGNA VISITORS Mrs. Betty Bish and Mr. Hy-ruChristoffersen of Olympia, Calif., were holiday weekend guests of Mr. Christoffersens sister, Mrs. Rose Rasmussen. m SPRING Relish salad adds zest to menus. For the celebration, we offer two fresh crisp salads to add zest to your dinners now and be welcome on tables at any time of the year. The first combines shredded cabbage and carrots with a wise choice of other vegetables. The mixture is chilled three days in a sweet and sour marinade made from a blend of corn oil, vinegar and light corn syrup. The final product is worth the three-da- y wait. It keeps crisp and fresh in the refrigerator for several days. The second recipe is a lettuce slaw. In it, real mayonnaise is blended with green pepper and other seasonings and the dressing is tossed with shredded crisp iceberg lettuce. The mixture is delicious mounded on thick tomato slices. SPRING RELISH SALAD 1 medium head cabbage, finely shredded 2 coarsely shredded cucumbers, pared and quartered lengthwise small green peppers, 1 chopped medium onion, minced 2 carrots, 2 medium Meldrum. Others in the group were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rushton of Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Anderson, Granger, and Mr. and Mrs. Liolen Hendrickson of Magna. Mrs. Bateman, the former Karen Breeze of Hunter, is a niece to Mrs. Anderson. President and Mrs. E. Verne Breeze are her parents. The Batemans hosted the group to a fish and chip dinner at a famous London pub, Flanigans. On their return to London, members of the group were guests at a dinner at the Bateman home in the Hyde Park area of London. Mrs. Bateman was hostess on a downtown shopping trip to London and showed local residents many things and places of interest. NEW BABY BOY Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Olson of 945 S.E. 224th, Gresham, Ore. 97030, announce the adoption of a baby boy on May 19. Mrs. Olson will be remembered as the former Joleen' Rodak of this siscommunity. A ter, Janet, is happily greeting the new arrival. Lightly toss together cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, green pepper and onion in large bowl. Mix together the vinegar, corn syrup, corn oil, salt and pepper; pour over vegetables. Toss lightly until mixed. Cover tightly. Chill at least three days before serving, tossing salad once each day. Serve on lettuce wedges or rafts. Makes about 12 servings. LETTUCE SLAW cup real mayonnaise cup fine chopped green pepper teaspoon minced onion teaspoon lemon juice Vi teaspoon sugar Vi teaspoon salt Dash pepper 4 cups shredded western iceberg lettuce (1 medium head) 6 thick tomato slices Combine mayonnaise, green pepper, onion, lemon juice, sugar, salt and pepper. Just before serving, toss with shredded lettuce. Mound on thick tomato slices. Makes about 6 servings or 3 Vi cups slaw.
